Texas Convention Dallas

Post by Mark Edwards »

Just got home from the Steel Guitar Convention in Dallas, boy there were more steelers than you can shake a stick at. Looked at though everyone was having a great time. What a brotherhood, who'd a thunk it, a bunch of folks from different walks of life, gettin together and enjoying the heck out of one common thing, the STEEL GUITAR.

I got to meet a bunch of guys I talk to almost on a daily basis, but have never met face to face, the guys from the Steel Guitar Chat Room.

If you missed Dallas this year I would encourage each and everyone to start saving up right now. You won't be sorry.

Sunday morning here in Dallas, and the music is still going strong, David Wright is on stage so it's good and also loud, hahaha. A great show, and the lady's at the front desk have did a fantastic job keeping things organized. Kudo's to them and the Dallas club for a great show.

What a great show!! J.D. Maness played so well last night....John Hughey's set was fantastic especially the part using Curtis Potter as vocalist. Emmons was in super form...he is wearing the Derby again and came loaded for bear. I have to say that Ralph Mooney captured the audience Saturday evening.

Everything was fantastic again this year, what a great weekend. If you are planning to attend next year be aware it will NOT BE at the "old Harvey" (aka the "new Westin"). It will be across the street (from where it is now) at the Sheraton Grand on March 13-16 2008. Look forward to seeing everyone there for another great show.

TSGA under Albert Talley and his staff again brought us some of the best entertainment around. We all owe Albert and Deb a big THANK YOU !

I just got in from Dallas and all I can say is what Doug Childress said.
It cost me way to much money up there, I came home with another Double 10 Carter with 8&7 and a new steel seat. But I had a good time. I finally got meet Bobbe Seymour and got to talk with Herb Remington a little bit, I haven't talked with Herb in years. I almost forgot to add that Bobby Bowman was his usual friendly self as always.
If you missed it you need to go next year.

I"m still here and winding down. It seems to get bigger every year but it's like an extended family.

HOUSE BAND

Post by Tom Sullinger »

:D I totally agree with everything that has been stated on this thread, BUT---I have not heard anything about the physical endurance test that was needed to get the job of house band. They did have a few breaks but were always there to work for anyone.
If you were not there to see the house band, those guys worked about four full gigs each day for almost THREE + days and was always ready for the next artist.
The drummer was still on the stand at church services today and looked as fresh as ever.
I WOULD LIKE THANK EACH OF THEM FOR THE HIGH QUALITY WORK UNDER HEAVY PRESSURE TO BACK THIS SUPERIOR TALLENT ON THAT STAGE.. Mark, get some rest my man, THAT BASS LOOKED REALLY HEAVY LATE SATURDAY NIGHT.> :D

Just wanted to say that David Wright is always great and loud. He plays a steel the way it should be, always up front. Anyone who can play like Maurice, Curly, and Julian is OK in my book! Check his website out, pretty kool and one bad dude, lol! Neal Yeagley

Not enough room

Post by Jim Keith »

I just hope there is a lot more seating at the Sheraton. It's not much fun to arrive and find out there is standing room only. There was no way I could watch the show with a bad back. Maybe next year I should bring my own chair. Also, there was a parking problem. Maybe it's time to move the show.
I did get to enjoy the shops outside the ballroom for awhile. Hope things are better next year.

David Played great but I am biased. I lived in Modesto and had the great fortune to share the stage with David many times. The time I spent in just the MSA room was worth the whole trip.

Mark is was great to meet you face to face my freind along with your beautiful bride Linda.

I can hardly wait till next year!!!
