Just got this last week. I've taken it to rehearsal twice and jamming last night

I replaced the volume and tone pots (originals were pretty corroded) which doubled the output from the pickups. No serial #, but the (original) Clarostat vol pot dates to 1952.

I like the tonal possibilities of eight strings and the ability to switch between tunings (currently D9 in the front and C6 in back). I'm lovin' this axe!

Wow! I've got one just like it. On mine the Epiphone logo has worn off. I also had to replace the pots and switch. I thought that the pickups were open and in need of a rewind because they read a very high reading on a ohmmeter. When I was taking them out to have them rewound, I measured them to double check. When disconnected from the pots they read around 5-6K ohms.

Jerry:

Exactly what I found when I hooked her up to the meter the first time: the resistance was about 140 Ohms. When I checked at the switch, the reading was about 4.5 Ohms. Just to double check, I ran a lead off before the volume pot and the sounded knocked me on my butt! I was able to reuse the original paper capacitor when I rewired, so the tonal characteristics of the tone circuit is pretty close to stock.
