How many of you know Bob Lucier of Canadian Fame? I remember him from the good old days , when he was staff Steel Guitarist for " The Tommy Hunter Show", which originated from Toronto, I believe. What a fantastic musician and still playing as great as ever; if not more so. I purchased one of Bob's latest CD's named " Eleven Favorites". I love the song, and his cut of it is my one of my favorite versions, along with the really jazzy live version by Cal Smith with Ernest Tubb and the Texas Troubadors, from the 1965 show.
My other favorite version is by Ernest Tubb himself.

The last time Bob came to Newfoundland (my Canadian province), I had the pleasure of loaning him my Session 400 and Sho~Bud pac seat for a series of shows at a soft seater. (He was backing up Kevin Collins, a Newfoundland singer who has just signed an Irish record deal with Daniel O'Donell's record label.) I already had his "11 Favourites" CD, so I was happy to provide what he needed when Steve Smith, another Canadian steel great, contacted me with Bob's backline requirements. His reputation as "Canada's Lloyd Green" is greatly warranted. A true genteman and a great steeler, I'm happy to say I'm a fan.
Bob plays Fulawka steels exclusively. He told me he owns four Fulawkas. The one he had with him, an SD-10, was stunning in looks and sound.
Did you all know he recorded several albums with Shot Jackson in Nashville in the 70's? I think he used a 13 or 14-string Sho~Bud or something.....
He's a steel guitar legend here in Canada, and I'm sure many of our US compatriots are well aware of his talent.
Bob is one of the finest players anywhere and a good friend.He talked Shot into building me a D-12 Sho-Bud even tho Shot did'nt have end plate casting patterns for it.On the inside of the plates you can see the weld joint.I guess either the 1st or one of the first D12 that Shot built.Great guitar which I still have but can hardly lift anymore.When we did Northern Steel,I hadn't seen Bob for quite a while.He could hardly beleive I still had it.I told him that since he went to all that trouble to get it,it was a keepsake.Great guy.
Rusty, so good for you to compliment on Bob. I have corresponded with you before some while back. You too are a gifted player, and I remember seeing you on British Television backing George Hamilton the 4th. This was before Bob took over

This is probably quite accurate. On another album of Bob's
{nerves of Steel}, he played a Sho-bud LDG, which he played for many years on the Tommy Hunter Show.
On a more recent recent? {Spring,2005} release called "88 & 10'', Bob is pictured with fellow recording performer, pianst, Mel Aucoin and Lioyd Green, who also wrote some of the CD liner notes {with John Hughey & Cliffy Short}.
I sold a Carter SD 10 to a friend of mine here in the Soo and while he was at my house he called Bob Lucier and was shipping the guitar to him to have it set up for him.I have'nt met him (Bob) personally but watched the Tommy Hunter show faithfully every week.He is one great player.

The reason I referred to Bob's CD as his latest is the fact that it was the CD being advertised on his up- to- date web-site, which I recently received from his Company. Sorry, didn't mean to miss inform my fellow formites with faulty data about our great Steel Players. Opps----I goofed.
