Here is a singleneck 8 (22 1/2" scale) made by Elva West of Anaheim. He winds the pickups himself. I've played Elva's guitars and they sound dead-on Stringmaster... notice the pickup blend knob. Just the nicest sounding steels, at the nicest price, made by the nicest guy.
However I'm a bit troubled by the fact the seller claims the pickups were made by an "Elba Fisher" who worked for Leo Fender. This is entirely false!!!

Jeff, I saw that guitar and wondered about that so called fact too. Still sounds like a nice guitar though if in fact it does come close to a Stringmaster. |

He must have sold it outside Ebay, as the relisted auction was ended as well.

He's relisted with a 'Buy it Now' price of $599. Not a bad price. |

Hi, I am the one that won this steel on auction. It went for $385.00 plus shipping. I love it. Thanks for the heads up. David |

I agree that Elva builds very nice steel guitars ! One thing to which I can attest is that should a problem arise at anytime with his guitars, he will gladly make things right. He's a man of his word.

I will 2nd what George said .....Elva is a very stand up guy , and will do anything in his power to make things right , and also to accomodate what you want on your steel ..... I have an all wood faux fry pan with a single coil pickup on it with a faux horseshoe setup on it ....Not to mention it's a 7 string .... I'm very happy with this little guy !.....Great tone , and a great lap steel , made by a great guy !!....Sincerely, Jim |

Nice -- I like the way he did the tuner "pan."
I'll bet that sounds quite juicy through that Super Reverb, too!
