I'm replacing the caps in the power supply of a Peavey Deuce. Since the exact values are not available, I'm substituting some values. I know I can't go lower on capacitance but can voltage of the cap be lower? Peavey was great on the phone and shipped out caps fast. Just want to be sure (or more sure) that the values I have will work. Hope that made sense.... Thanks in advance for the help. _________________ Buckaroo ShowPro, Quilter Aviator, (plus all that other stuff....) |

Don't go lower than the manufacturer's specs, in either capacitance or voltage, that's the general rule. However, if Peavey supplied you parts for a specific application, that would take precedence. |

Normally no. Applied working voltage to a capacitor should not exceed the rated working voltage of capacitor. You could go higher in working voltage if you have the physical room to install it. (the cap will usually be larger at a higher working voltage) Other than the norm you would have to know the working voltage of the circuit to see if there is any wiggle room. _________________ Franklin D10, Telonics (E9)True Tone(C6) pickups, Fender Steel King , Evans (FET 500LV), Nashville 400, Quilter MicroBlock 45 amp's, Telonics FP100 volume pedal, PodXT(effects only), Boss RV3(delay & reverb),Steel Guitar Black Box,Bill Lawrence cables, Walker Seat,Peterson Flip Tuner, IVL Steel Rider, IK Multimedia IRig Pro DUO for recording. |

Well, I finally got this job done with the help of my friend Eric. It works fine. Not sure the problem is fixed. The channel two input won't do anything but everything else works fine. Guess I won't worry about it. The automix input works great and it sounds great with my steel. Also, the replacement caps sent by Peavey for the main power supply were 450 Volt/22 ufd. They were physically a lot smaller than what came out in it which were 350 volt/100 ufd. I called PV twice and they said what I got was the currently (ha, current-ly...) recommended substitute. It works. Nothing smokes. Sounds good to me. Thanks to everyone here for the help! N. |

Are you sure those weren't 220mfd? _________________ Best regards,

I checked a couple of times because it didn't seem quite right but I'm 95% sure it said 22. I'll check the order sheet next practice since the amp is at the "studio". The caps are for sure only slightly more than half the size of the originals. Guess we'll see.... |

For the Deuce VT series (not the 240T) I got these values from the schematic I have on file:
voltage rail*********cap value*******quantity
+500*****************100uf/350V******2 in series
+490*****************same as above
+26 and -26V*********1000uf/35V******2 each
+300V****************10uf/350V*******1 each
+15 and -15V*********22uf/25VDC******2 each
bias supply**********10uf/150V*******3 each |
