Andy, thanks for your swift response but I will have to rewrite the question.I'm referring to his tuning when he was with Buck Owens back in 1966. I found Don Rich on Youtube playing the cajun fiddle with the Buckaroos and particularly liked what Tom was playing on his steel break, looks to me like the Day set up,anyone seen the video? I'd love to get that down - some nifty playing from Tom. Thanks,James. |

James, Tom looks like he's using the Day setup as his A & B pedals are in the 2nd and 3rd slots but he actually uses the "Emmons" setup. His 1st pedal raises his 7th string F# to G# and his 10th string B to C#. I also raise my 7th to G# on pedal one as does b0b I believe......JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

Jerry, Thanks for the reply. Can I just ask you if you have seen the video on youtube and if so what is he doing with his left lever on the first part of the solo and the beginning of the second part? Remember this is 1966! There seems to be a lot of conflicting replies regarding his tuning - just can't seem to find that run down at the beginning! Thanks a lot James |

Hi James, me old mate. I watched it. I lower my E's RKR, as most universal players do. Tom is lowering his E's LKL as he comes down on that 1st part of the run even though he had an Emmons set up. I remember years ago thinking he was double jointed to do it that way with his AB pedals depressed. The Winnie Winston book "MAY" confirm, but from just listening, you can hear the E's being lowered as he moves down. He does the same later on. AB on the first part, then AB and E's lowered etc etc and then release the E lever on the last parts. I'm sure you've done that run before mate....you've probably forgotten Lol....My band used to play Cajun fiddle, and I copied Tom.

Hey! Mickey, how's it going? You still in Gloucester or back in Essex? Yes, I thought it was Es going down, just wasn't sure -I've lost my Winnie book so couldn't check. We do Cajun but I play it on the fiddle so never tried it on steel, I think I've got it now. Nice to hear from you , Regards Jim |
