I have my eye on two amps on E-Bay. A Peavy Classic 30, & a Peavy 212 Mace. Do you have any info on these amps, and are they good for Pedal Steel?

Joe i bought a Peavey Mace new in 1977 and though it had six 6L6's in it i didn't care for the sound for pedal steel. traded it straight over for a new Session 500 in 1979, and went to steel heaven. I think the Mace is probably voiced for guitar and Peavey is pretty specific usually about which application they are making the amp for. Never used the Classic 30, but that sounds like it may be a guitar amp. Peavey makes more great sounding steel guitar amps than anyone so if you want something that will keep you happy, then IMHO i'd go for a steel guitar amp. TJH

I presently use a Classic 100 for pedal steel.and have in the past used a Classic 50 2x12 combo and 2 Delta Blues 1x15 all tubes comos for steel... The Classic 30 will work, and will sound ok for steel at low volume, but are not voiced for steel..Its a "vintage" sounding amp,, Voiced more like a 50's tube amp... Not Peaveys best steel amplifiers,this particular series... They are made for classic rock,blues,and even country GUITARISTS wanting a classic tube sound...The Nashville 112 is a MUCH better steel amp.. If you must use a Classic series for pedal steel, get the higher powered Classic 50.. Mine was decent for pedal steel.. A pretty good compromise for guitar and pedal steel.. bob
