ID this lap steel

Obviously, it's called a Columbia. But check out the MOT pickup cover and the ?soapstone? bridge. (A friend sent these pictures from Hilo.)

Anyone have any info on this steel. How do they sound?

that's an 18 stringer from end on.
in lucite too.

I believe Columbia is a Japanese brand, but I can't guarantee it. I've certainly never seen anything like this before.

Columbia used to make electric guitars (and keyboards) during 60s as long as I know, but did not know they were making steels. I guess the plastic pickup cover is a strong evidence that it is Japanese made. Below is a Teisco.

These 3 guitars were made in Japan in the 50s or 60s.
The one on the left is a Columbia.
