Hi everybody
This past was the first year I've made the trek to the festival in St. Louis, and, although we only went for about half of one day, it was wonderful. Now of course, I'm trying to remember who we managed to see, and one of the names is escaping me.
I'll provide all the information I can--I THINK it was Saturday. We DID see Buddy Emmons in the main room. I also remember seeing a Czech(maybe?) player, as well as Jim Cohen. Either before or after Jim's set, there was an older steeler, playing VERY smooth, wonderful "jazz" ish standards. I know that he was from the southern US..maybe MS? Also, one of his bandmates made the trip as well, and played stand up bass and sang (crooned:)) as well.
Does anyone have their program, or remember his name? I can't find it on the web, and seem to have misplaced my own, in the rush to get home on time.:/
I did shake his hand afterwards, and haven't washed it since, but it doesn't seem that I got any of the licks by osmosis...*sigh*
Thanks for all your help!

And the gentleman playing the upright bass was none other than Ed Clark, I wish I knew what Ed has forgotten about playing bass.
Mr. Smooth and Mr. Ed make a great pair, and both are excellent musicians as well as great guys.
Bill and Ed both live in Gulfport, Ms. Bill has several CD's

Aaron-I wasn't there, but you did describe Bill Stafford perfectly as mentioned. He is definitely MR. Smooth...al _________________ Michigan (MSGC)Christmas Dinner and Jam on my 80th Birthday.

Every one knows how great Bill is except Bill. He is a classy and humble man, with a great knowledge of his instrument. And he is the player you're referring to. And Ed Clark is a real prince of a person. |

Aaron,
You need to come to Gulfport when the DDSGA has their semi monthly meeting and jam. Some fine gulf coast pickers, and Mr. Smooth is always there in his usualy excellent form. Always a great show and fine food. The next show is June 30, there is a post in the events and announcement section, that will grow with the details of the show. I am not sure who all is going to be their, but always a great show. Keep watch and we will see who will be their.
Mike
