I recently started using a 11.5 G# string instead of a 11.0 on my 2000 Carter. Now when I have my A and B pedal pressed down I get a clicking or popping noise when I release my B pedal. Any ideas what could be causing this?

A few months ago, I also noticed a clicking noise when I changed string sets. I didn't change the gauge of my 3rd string, though. The noise came from the changer end. It seemed to me that one of the nylon tuners was binding when I released my B pedal.

Eventually, the noise went away and I haven't heard it since. I've made sure that the guitar is properly lubricated and that may have resolved the issue.

You might have a few threads of the pull rod exposed just past the finger end of the tuning nut that are catching on the hole in the changer finger. You can take an old tuning nut, cut 1/4" of it, drill it out for a slip fit on the pull rod and put it between the tuning nut and the changer finger to act as a bushing and keep the threads from getting caught on the side of the hole.

Thanks Fred and Jim for your suggestions. I'll give them a try. It has been a while since I did a lube job. Maybe this is all it needs.
