Hi Guys
Have any of you guys got a maverick pedal or lever on your E9th that maybe pushes the boundaries a bit, or gives you a really tasty inversion that normally would not be available given the normal E9 set up. I just wonder did Paul Franklin pore over his copedent and thought... 'If I put this there, then maybe I can get this etc....etc'. Jimmy Day had that 5th string raised a tone and a half many years ago, which radically changes the possibilities, particularly given the mechanical improvements today.
I find myself playing with my set up on paper wondering how I can get some of those C6 inversions on my ninth neck.
(I'm not a very good C6 player, I've come to it a little too late).
It's amazing how just one change radically affects the rest, and while three notes in one postion, [eg] strings 7,6,5, open,(1,9,3 of a scale) sound fine, when played with a lever flattening 10 a tone and a half and strings 10,7,5 played ( 9,1,3 of a scale), the sound becomes really creamy and instantly usable. I know many will say there's enough still waiting to be discovered on the ninth and talent doesn't need all this mechanical advantage, but it still occupies my brain and occasionally something pops up that makes you smile..
As an aside, One of my favourite solos ever, Lloyd Greens' solo on 'Who's gonna love me now, by Charlie Louvin. I still can't quite work it out and Lloyd used a simple set up all those years ago. Now that's Talent with a capital T. Maybe I've answered my own question !!!!!!!. |
