Just talked to my friend Corky Owens, and just found out that Johnny Bush is playing at the Stagecoach Ballroom in Fort Worth Texas tonight. I know this it's kind of late notice, but for those that like JB come on out. Linda and I will be there. And Gary Carpenter will be backing up Johnny on Steel. Show starts at 8:00 p.m. |

It was Johnny's yearly birthday celebration at the Stagecoach. He turned... (gasp!)... 72 yesterday!
Con mucho gusto, mi amigo y mi hermano!
I of course was at my own gig, but I'm sure Johnny, with the able assistance of Carp, knocked it out of the park. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

Yes Herb, Johnny Bush put on a heck of a show as usual. I can only hope I look as good and fit a JB does when I'm 72. His vocal range is awesome, and even after his bout with throat problems he's sounding like his old self.
All had a great time. Wished you had been there, Maybe next year. Oh yea I've heard Carp play too many times to mention, but it seems like he continues to pull a rabbit out of the hat every time he plays. He pulled out all the stops on this one. Carp is an amazing steel player. |

I knew Johnny would do a great show. We played many fine b'day shows at the Stagecoach. And of course Gary C. is a monster.
I left JB's band after 14 straight years in March of 2006, and began picking with my old pal Gary P. Nunn. Much more and steadier work and I'm featured more as an instrumentalist. That said, the Bandoleros made some of the best music I've played in my career, and I cherish every moment I spent onstage with Johnny, who's still my dear friend and also my Masonic brother.
And yes, he's better looking at 72 than most players 30 years his junior! |

Hey Mark...you hit it on the head about Gary Carpenter's incredible playing! I've heard a lot of the great steel players play over the years and Gary Carpenter doesn't take a back seat to any of them. His tone, intonation, knowledge of the various musical styles and playing execution is just awesome.
I've been working hard at convincing him to play more shows but he's so consumed building the great RAINS Steel Guitars. Wish I could have been there to hear Johnny Bush and Gary Carpenter... |
