All of this talk about Extended E9 vs. Universal has me wondering if anyone approaches and plays a D-10 as one big 20 string guitar with a big space in the middle of the neck?(between the two necks).
My D-10 has a three-way neck selector switch, so in the middle position both necks are on at the same time. I'm assuming that this for a player to use both necks together, at the same time? So, who actually uses this to their advantage? I bet there are possibilities with this that go beyond what the Extended E9 or the Universal tuning have.....maybe? This is a serious question.....but move it to humor if you think it's a silly idea . |

I've seen Doug Jernigan play both necks at the same time. _________________ Steeltronics Z-pickup,Desert Rose S-10 4+5,Desert Rose Keyless S-10 3+5... Before he settled on his 14 string E6/9,Julian Tharpe tried a bunch of variations on that idea including having no space between two 10 string necks and a 16 string neck-and-a-half contraption. Like stated,Jernigan plays one tune on both necks at once for a novelty and it's amazing to witness. I've tried it and it's very key specific and a blocking nightmare. The other thing is with both necks open, the output of the whole guitar is cut by about 20%. |

I thought everyone did. I have always played with both necks on since I switch from one to the other very much. |
