We are proud to announce that on February 20th at 8:00 eastern time we will have yet another seminar in the steel guitar chat room. Last month Mike McGee did a seminar on music theory made simple and how to relate that to playing steel guitar. The response was so overwhelming that so many have asked for a follow up which Mike promised he would make time for. Well that time will be this coming Tuesday night so be sure to set time aside for this. This is a members only event, however you may join the room by simply going to http://steelin4fun.com/donations.htm . The donation required simply covers the costs of operating the room and software expenses. We have seminars and lots of fun events in the room which more than dwarfs the small donation fee, so give it a try. Also we invite you to visit our website at:
http://www.steelguitarchatroom.com/ . Once there you will be able to "click" on all of the icons to see some of the fun stuff we do there. If you like, you can also read our last Newsletter "The Chatter".
And let me just add that we are going to have a booth in Dallas where we will be signing up new members as well as bringing our current members a lot of the fun from Dallas. Some will not be able to make the trip so we are going to bring as much home for them as possible. We will be doing a lot of interviews on our trip and pictures to galore. In keeping with tradition and b0b's wishes, please visit the "Steel On The Web" section of this forum for further updates on this event. So don't forget...our next siminar is Tuesday, Feb 20 at 8:00 eastern.
Until next time...God Bless and be safe

PS Almost forgot....Bobby Bowman and myself will be doing a session on small repairs to the mechanics as well as cosmetics of your steel guitar. So many times we encounter small problems that often we could fix ourselves if we just knew how. Well... we will be covering many of those situations with you "live and in real time" in the room. Stay tuned for the date announcement. Wednesday nights is always "play your own stuff" night. You can actually set up your rig and play your own stuff and listen to many of the other members. That's a blast of a night as well. Too many good times to announce...but you get the picture. |

Can't wait for Mike's seminar on the 20th.
One of the best things about these seminars is that you can record them and if you missed something, you can play it back when you need.
As Ray said, the seminars are only a part of the things that you can expect in the room. There is always something going on from great classic country music being played to being able to talk one on one with some of the pro's.
Hoping to see you all there.

I know a lot of you think, “Chat Room” and draw a mental picture of what they are all about and based on what you have heard and the some times negative impression of what a “Chat Room” is, you decide it’s not for me. To those who fall in this category, let me just add. The room is kind of like being at a steel show where you can meet with and talk to Steelers, musicians and others of similar interest. I would also describe it as a forum with a voice. It’s also nice to play something you have worked very hard to learn to others that appreciate your effort. Thanks Ray and Don for the time you spend to make it such an enjoyable place for us to visit, talk, learn, and play music with our friends and fellow musicians around the world. |

Ray, two questions before I donate :-
1. Does the Chat-Room support Apple Macs ?
2. Is it sound only, or is there video ?

Basil....Randy Beavers used a mac for a long time and came into the room. His only problem back then was that he was on dial up due to his location and there was some lagging in the sound. He has since went to DSL and has conducted a seminar for over three hours and everything was fine. The room is set up for audio. You can hear via your speakers and speak via your mic. Now because we have a URL window viewable upove the chat window you can surf the web and watch a videa but you can't braodcast that video. If we want to see something on youtube...for instance we can bring up that page and watch it, but as far as looking face to face with the other steelers while you are chating...no we do not have those capabilities. Hope this helps sort things out for you.
Thanks

I can't possibly tell you how much the chatroom has helped me. The seminars are great, the friendships are real and the music is awesome. It's the little things that have helped me the most. guys like Mike Sigler, Joe Sapp, Hook Moore, Billy Carr, Bobby Bowman, Mike McGee and many others that take a minute now and then to show me a particular run or "lick" step by step. The inspiration that these guys instill on me has also been a great factor.
If you need Proof how much the Chat Room has helped me, go to www.myspace.com/bigjimwalker and listen to the song playing. I recorded it last October after only playing PSG for 9 months. NOW I'm playing steel full time in a working band and I'm getting paid for it.
$5 a month to be in the Chat Room is nothing. I tip the waitress at the Waffle House more than that most of the time.
Thank you Don and Ray for all you do.
Warmest Regards,

Well the Seminar tomorrow night is going to be another great time for all. Mike is an exceptional instructor and is well received. The best part is that he doesn't mind if you record the event for later use as he understands that this helps a lot of us who's memories aren't what they used to be. We're just fortunate that he is giving up some of time to share a little. You boys know how much we mean to each other there and I'll see you tomorrow night.

Anyone will tell you, the people in an orginazition are what makes it great, and this room has the greatest people. I drove eight hours to a jam at Joe Sapp's, to meet face to face a lot of these people, (Joe and Irene are beautiful people)this was one of the most memorable weekends I ever had. This room is like family, an some of the finest steelers that can be heard. Steeler players range from beginners to pro's. Mike McGee who is doing the thing on Music Theory, on tuesday night is a great teacher, not to mention such a warm and kind person. This is not a place for bitter attitudes of people with a chips on their shoulder, but a great informative and relaxing place to come and enjoy
Thanks Ray and Don and all the staff
Hope to see you there

I've been a part of the Steel Guitar Chat Room for over a year now. It's always run with class and dignity. Everyone from the beginner to the seasoned player can learn something by just hanging out. It's a good time with no pressure on anyone.
For many, tonight's seminar alone by Mike McGee will be worth the dues for a full year. While tonight is a "structured" seminar, you can log on most anytime a get answers to questions ranging from playing technique to the mechanics of your guitar. (Heck, we've even been known to talk about lawnmowers and cooking!)

I appreciate Mike's doing this. He is a great player and a really nice person. He helped me understand the adjustments on my new guitar last year, he is very good at explaining things.
Thanks Mike. |
