If anything, the Grammys might be on the whole, the most legit of these crazy awards shows.
Alvin mentioned the Grammy for Doc Watson and Bryan Sutton for the best country instrumental. It's a fine piece and a fine album. It doesn't make me superior because I also know about it, but I can't imagine that the album has sold very many copies to date, compared to a pop music act.
I'd be willing to bet that even here on the musically astute Forum, that there are a fair number of members who don't even know who Bryan Sutton is.

Oh I'm sorry. I thought the chicks brought up some sleazy political slant at one of their concerts over in Europe that ticked off most of the people who understand what we are in the midst of right now. Maybe the details or the ramafications of this political chick stuff has not made out it to Mexifornia yet.
Every word written about them and every award they get and every time they open their mouth is political now and they have made it clear that they won't ever apologize for what they did. It does not have to have a formal introduction in a thread about them.

No I am not.
According to the US Census over 34 per cent of all the illegal aliens that are here in the US live in your state. We do have plenty here in Georgia, but not enough to add a Mexican tag.....yet.
Maybe that info has not gotten to Mexifornia yet either. :-}
UPDATE!!!!
I just checked the new figures from the US Gov. The estimated percentage of the illegal aliens that live in Calif/Mexi-fornia now is 40%.

No.
They received the award from ONLY the members of NARRAS.
The people who stopped buying their records and stopped going to their concerts had no voice in what they just won. Those people still hold them to what they said and for what they have not apologized for and the chicks wrote them off.
The political views of the people who voted for the chicks line up with the chicks. This is political and has very little to do with the music they recorded.
The chart position showed you the political views of the fans.
Mark, I have been "on the grounds" here since 1998. I know my way around pretty well and have been slapped by b0b before.
I am not allowed to make political references about islam anymore, but the chicks are still fair game.
Bring it on. The chicks have ventured into nothing new in the music they just won an award for and have announced to the world and to their old fan base that they are just a bit too good for what they used to do. After all, they did say that they would rather not have the country fans they used to have that listened to them and also to other country acts. They prefered to have fans that "get it" as they announced at a news conference. The little mousey one said for just a second that she might have been a bit sorry for what she said, but then she changed her mind about that and said that she was not sorry and the President of the United States deserved no respect at all.
This is the ilk you cast your lot with????

What about the people who ARE buying their records and going to their concerts?Bill Hatcher wrote: The people who stopped buying their records and stopped going to their concerts had no voice in what they just won.
But OK, assuming that you are right and this is purely about politics, (this thread obviously isn't going to stay open much longer) why don't you demand that Bush apologize for lying about Saddam (who was bin Laden's ENEMY) having WMD and starting the war in Iraq instead of concentrating finding bin Laden and sestroying Al Qaida ?
Bush is responsible for thousands of Americans UNNECESSARILY dying of being maimed and crippled for lie, and tens of thousands if Iraqis meeting similar fates. Perhaps you ought to re-assess where you should direct your anger.

Hussien had the weapons. He used them on his own people. Kerry said he had them. Kennedy said he had them. Clinton said he had them. The intelligence that everyone saw said they were there and that is what he went on. You cannot fault Bush for what he did. It was damn if he did and damn if he did not.
History will show that what Bush did was a gutsy choice, but how the scenario was handled later was not done well.
History will also show that one of the greatest hinderances to our policy in Iraq succeeding was undermined by the Democrats. They have fought Bush tooth and nail on this. This has given our enemies a reason to keep up the attacks on us in Iraq. The words of the chicks keep them fighting. They know that we don't really have the guts as a population to fight. The only people who have shown that thay they have the guts to stick this out and fight is the soldiers over there. They are basically all that is left of the spirit of America as far as I am concerned. We sit here and wonder who the father is of a bimbo like that Smith thing and the people who hate us and everything we stand for just continue planning our destruction and watch us let them do it.
War is ugly. Go find your video of 9/11 and maybe you will recapture the essence of what is at stake here.
If we don't succeed in Iraq, you will not believe what we will be staring at in the future.
My anger is only directed at those who have their own feeble personal political agendas in their best interest and not the best interest of the United States at heart.
Got to go play a show. It will be fun to come back tonight and sift through the replies and learn who is really savvy on this, who likes to just make some butt level conscience jokes and who really cares.

The Grammys are about music.
The politics of the person should not be a factor.
But some people are very intent on branding the DC as some sort of traitors because they disagree with their politics, and seem to be saying that because of their politics, they deserve no awards for their music.
Frankly, country music stars have not been known for being very intellectual or aware of the world, and many in the field seem to think that is the only acceptable behavior for the genre, and that blind patriotism and unthinking knee-jerking is the only option available.
The DC don't buy that, and neither do I.

Before this thread is closed, I must point out that Saddam and Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11, that Saddam and Bin Laden were enemies, that the poison gas Saddam had used against the Kurds 10 years earlier had deteriorated to the point of being useless, and that the report that Mohammud Atta met with an Iraqi official before the attacks was a lie, as was the line in the 2003 state of the union address about Saddam trying to buy uranium.
There was NO reason to invade Iraq. Bush CHOSE to do it to satisfy a personal whim.
He is the one who owes the nation an apology. Not the Chicks.

Yep. Better not pay attention to polls-because you might become disappointed in your fellow Americans.
Even after President Bush declared in a news conference that Sadam Hussein and his Iraqi cohorts had "nuthin'" to do with the attacks on 9/11, a Harris poll from Sept., 2005 showed that twenty-two percent (22%) of adults believe that Saddam Hussein "helped plan and support the hijackers who attacked the United States on September 11."
Were these all Californians?

Sheesh, I thought for sure this'd be closed by now.
The single may have only got to number 38 (or was it 39?) but the cd debuted at number one on the billboard 200, and stayed there at least for a couple weeks. I think the cd was also number one on the country charts too.
I still can't believe that the Dixie Chicks worship Don Henley though. That's a real shocker.
