What a show she puts on and what a nice person. She played here in San Antonio a few weeks back with Redd Volkaert and came over to our table to talk Stringmasters because someone told her we were steelheads. She signed a Stringmaster photo for us and commented she was glad to have place she could borrow one if needed. She used a Steel King amp and one effects pedal (not sure what it was - wish I had taken a better look). She does not use the bridge covers and switches necks and the neck switch so fast its a blur. - Whit

A forum friend wrote me and ask me a little more about Cindy's performance, so I'll add a little more.
I took that picture with my little digital and it does not do her justice. She is 5' 6" or 5' '7" and she is as pretty on the inside as she is out. She had a genuine smile on her face the whole show and played her heart out. We were about 25 feet from her and at the most crowded there were maybe 100 people in the club. Tword the end there were only about 30 die hards and she still had that smile. She came over to talk to us before she went on about 9:00PM. She stayed at our table for at least 5 minutes talking steel. She died laughing at the picture of my Stringmasters. She said "see you in a bit" walked off and started the first song about 1 minute later.
She is the prettiest when she is playing. Can't describe it, but it must be the carefree joy and excitement she shows when she plays. Her pick hand bounces high off the strings - perhaps a foot sometimes. She plays cord progressions and lick combinations you know she never has played before, gets a big grin, and looks over at Redd who is throwing his head back in laughter or shaking his head, thinking "Cindy... you're just too much!!". She can play using the bar and not even picking. No idea how she does that. It was a once in a lifetime live performance.
Heres another post about the performance - http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum15/HTML/011731.html <font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Whit Snell on 18 April 2006 at 07:14 PM.]</p></FONT>

Hey there's no doubt: "The Chick is Drop Dead Gorgeous" and I've had a HUGE Crush on that Cindy Chick for a long time(it's Ok I call her a chick; cause she's my good friend too)...ha....
But you nailed it by saying she is beautiful inside and out..>you can't meet a nicer woman and sugar and spice and everything nice is an understatment.
She plays a mean steel too.

On an album she cut with ASATW she does one
of the bar tricks , on the tune -- " Bring it on
down to my house honey " -- ! I'm not one for tabs
but I would love to see how she did that .
She's my mentor ! for sure !

Bob, I know the lick you're talking about, it's very unique sounding. The only way I could duplicate it is using a kind of "reverse hammer on" technique. Using the tip of the bar, picking the string and pulling off immediately after, all in the upper register. The trick is in the accuracy, hitting the right notes the way Cindy does makes or breaks the solo.

Here's one of my favorite photos of Cindy, taken right after a gig at Ginny's in Austin last fall. Can't recall who the two guys in the picture are, though ...

Coconut Grove, nice! Thanks for the link.
What playing, what tone! Gotta buy me a Stringmaster and see if it comes with those things!
Wow, that's Elana Fremerman from the Hot Club of Cowtown (RIP).
cheers,
Drew
