It's incidents as this that make you not want to mess with ebay at all for anything. It's hard to trust it any longer.

your 10,000 bid hasn't registered yet, Damir

If this was the guitar that was stolen from you, then I hope you nail the bas**rds responsible.

There was another item on E-BAY last weekend that should have been a $12,000 item listed for $3,000. It was restricted to pre-approved bidders only. A bidder had to e-mail the seller to register for approval. He instructed that he be e-mailed directly, instead of through E-BAY. The last time I checked, the listing had been removed. What strikes me as being a little odd is that the seller was also a new member with no feedback and the item was also supposedly located in GA.

Damir, I don't mean to butt in with the obvious, but have you let eBay know that this is your stolen Fessenden? You certainly have plenty of proof that you own this steel. I'm sorry it was stolen. I looked at it long and hard when you had it up for sale, it sure is a beauty.

Damir
Are saying that the guitar was stolen, or is it your auction that was stolen? I remember when you had it on ebay, but cannot remember if your reserve was met. Did it sell?

Damir,

if this item was stolen from you should contact E-Bay and tell them this. They can do a quick IP check and report it to the police and then go from there. An Ip-check is easy done.Even if the seller is using a PROXY SERVER to list this item.
I wish you all the best buddy...........hope this matter will be solved. They must've copied this pic of the forum.I've seen it before.

There is something weird going on with Steel Guitar auctions on ebay. The last two D-10s I have had on Ebay have both been hijacked. The guy who is trying to sell Damir's is using a sellers name similar to mine, this is not me!!

Looks like this first time seller copied all the information from a prior auction and reposted it. I hope they have someway to catch him.

Caution Ebay Login Pages

Post by Mickey Adams »

If you look closely at a lot of these pages on ebay that are hijacked, and look at the code, you will likely find them loaded with script. The hijacker will redirect you to phony ebay login pages. READ THE ADDRESS BAR VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU LOGIN. THIS IS ONE METHOD OF AQUIRING NEW VICTIMS!
To be safe, back off of the hijacked page and login from Ebays home page, then navigate to the hijacked page and give the %^$&%$*hole a piece of your mind. Damir, very sorry to hear this happened to you...good Luck

The Pedal Steel section is being targeted now ...They also hit the "tractor" section for a while ...In one catagory , there were 5 bogus tractors !!...I continued to inform Ebay, and the ad's continued ....Ebay doesn't care !!....They send you a thank you letter, and do NOTHING !!!..They continue to make money whether you get ripped off or not !!.. I had a thread a while ago about PayPal ...a subsidiary of Ebay.... Everyone on the forum was thrilled with PayPal and had no problems ..I however had problems getting my money back ....This will be next , mark my words !!... Ebay has gotten out of control , and if you can't get a telephone number from the person you are buying from that you can check, run the other way !!..Ebay is not responsible for any problems you might have ...Buyer Beware !!...Jim

Ebay Fraud

Thank you for notifying us about the fraud, Damir. It was a toss up whether to buy that $250,000 purple Fessenden or a purple Aston Martin.

If you see ANY auction for a large sum of money and no user history, DON'T BID. Seriously, the feedback is there for a reason and long term sellers have a history that is verifiable. If something expensive is being sold buy any seller that has no feedback history then you run a real risk of getting ripped off. When I started selling, I sold surplus CD's to build up a history, then worked up to bigger sales. any seller worth their salt has a long history with at least 97% positive feedback.
If you make intelligent decisions about what you bid on and think a minute about it, you can't get burnt too bad on Ebay. The system is set up so that it can be exploited, for sure, but it is also set up so that if you use common sense it is the best place in the world to find what you want!

It's almost always obvious to me at FIRST GLANCE which auctions are scams. Sometimes, I have to look a little closer but it never takes long to figure it out.

Some things that always tip it off....
1 Contact me before bidding
2 The price is too good to be true
3 I'll only accept a wire transfer for payment
4 You can't come pick it up because it's being sent from Romania

5 It's an item that sold last week with the same auction text
6 It's a $4k item from a NEW seller with NO feedback

Just wondering what happens to the winner's feedback when he can't come up with the quarter-mil or so?

Or what happens to the scammer when he doesn't pay the eBay fees. Probably used a stolen credit card to create the eBay account anyway.

Is the following statement by eBay a good response to what is going on with problems of fraud or not?

eBay has posted
As the internet evolves, eBay continues to strike a balance between preserving transparency and protecting our Community of members. eBay has decided to change how bid history information is displayed so bad guys cannot target bidders with fake offers using this information. In certain cases, some bidders will no longer be able to view Bidder User IDs on the Bid History page. Your User ID will be shown only to you and the seller of the item you're bidding on. Other members will see an anonymous name, such as Bidder 1, applied consistently to the Bid History page.

Do NOT be fooled by feedback. It is usually the account holder that has been hijacked's authentic feedback. I have been through many a scam methods regarding the purchase of high powered telescopes on ebay. Ebay does care. Given thier size and volume of transactions, they have limited resources to investigate fraud. (For what its worth) Eventually if you see enough of this you can spot the fraudulent seller very easily. The USERNAME listed on active pages is probably authentic. They however do NOT know that thier account has been compromised. If you click SEND A MESSAGE and you are redirected to a script that opens YOUR computer default email program...DEAD GIVEAWAY. Page is authentic, account is hijacked...period. Prior to the last Ebay update you could email the user and ASK if they had that particular item for sale. Now all bidders are lister as bidder 1,2,3 etc to protect OUR identities. AGAIN....DO NOT LOGIN FROM A SUSPECTED HIJACKED PAGE HYPERLINK THAT REDIRECTS YOU>< READ THE ADDRESS BAR...I am as frustrated as everyone else but like all things in life, educating yourself to the hackers world is a must nowadays. The US government has setup an internet fraud division calld IC3 to target hijackers. So far they have been as productive as every other government agency..(2% effective?) aka "GOVERNMENTIUM".....If you think ANY item you are interested in on Ebay may be a fraud, email me the link...happy to edumacate all ye petal steal buddys I haves out dere.....and stuff......

I sold about 2400 items on ebay and only one thing of high value (PRS Guitar). On that one, I wouldn't accept anything but a Wire Transfer or Postal Money Order. Every other payment method wasn't safe. The buyer did a Wire Transfer and I mailed the guitar. Sellers need protection too, that's why I'd only take 2 methods of payment on the guitar. Otherwise I used Paypal to buy and sell and never had a problem. What's really hard to figure out is how to protect the buyer and seller at the same time.

I have recently been scammed on a guitar. Scammers are getting harder to spot, they are very clever. Unless payment is handled through PayPal, eBay doesn't offer you much satisfaction. They do have an address (spoof@eBay.com) that you can send any suspected emails to and they will let you know if they are legitimate or not. :(
