Hi everyone, I am 57 years old. I have an early 70's Shobud Professional that's too heavy. I do not play professionally anymore, just go to jam sessions where I play a dobro or a Sierra lap steel thru a Roland Cube 30. I am thinking about a single neck 10 string with 5 knee levers that doesn't weigh much. I am new to this forum. Are there any relatively light pedal steels out there? I will use the E9 tuning. Thanks ahead of time for your comments. Of course I would like that Emmons aluminum tone but I guess that weight supercedes tone, though I want a quality instrument. Thanks again!

There are several brands of psgs that offer S-10 keyless guitars in the 25--30 lb weight range. Williams, GFI.......

Hey Dave!

If you're the Dave Cook I'm thinking of, keep on picking that Sierra! I still see Bobby Earl, John Reed, and Marcia all the time. Steve McDaniel, however, I've lost touch with.

If this message means nothing to you, I have the wrong Dave Cook in memory. So as Emily Litella would say... "never mind." Wink

Regardless of your identity, GFIs and Carters are both very lightweight steels. On the high end, the new MSA Millenium is a very lightweight guitar as well, though more costly than the Carter or GFI.

You can't go wrong with a Carter. They are light weight, stay in tune, have killer tone, and are reasonably priced. The Carter Starter has received some great reviews, and you can't beat the price. The folks at Carter are great to work with too! Wink

Yes Herb, you got the right man. You've got a good memory still. Moved to Fla. in'79 and played mostly keyboards until 4 years ago. Back into the steel and I love all the Murphey cuts on your web site. I'm glad to see you are still picking. Hang in there.

I absolutely love my '97 S12 Carter. Hope this helps.
