This female, vocal trio done in the old fashioned way of harmonizing is a joy to hear and the steel guitar is fabulous both in the background fills and solo work. http://www.jerrybyrdfanclub.com/JerrysMusic.htm
Those old Bakelites with the small speakered amps had a sound that some feel cannot be beat or ever equalled.
Of course Jerry Byrd's styling and technique is, in itself, hard to beat. You can hear on Jerry's "Jerry's MUSIC" page.

Nice to see the link in your post, the more get to hear Jerry's playing, the better, and your promotion of him is laudable, keep up the stirring work!!
BTW the link to the soundfile is broken at the moment !!
(At least it doesn't appear as a link in "Safari" Mac OS 10.xxx)

Ray, about the Fender Twin amp - Jerry and I went to Harry's Music in Honolulu where we packaged up the amp and the Sho Bud steel guitar for delivery in St. Louis. When the amp arrived it was busted on the top of the amp. I called FedEx and they sent a man out to look at it. They wanted to issue a pickup on the amp for more evaluation which they did. I didn't hear anything from them for a few weeks so I contacted them. They told me that were denying the claim and had sent the amp back to it's original city, which was Honolulu. I contacted Harry's Music and they told me, yes the amp was there. I got ahold of FedEx and informed them to return the amp to me. They did pick the amp up but it never made it back to me...they lost it.
You are so correct about Jerry's guitar getting some damage on almost every plane trip he took.
One more thing. On the very first trip to Japan it was myself, Jerry and Buddy Emmons. We had toured to many cities in Japan and on our last night we were at the US airforce base in Yokoto. I had played, Jerry had played and Buddy was on stage. Jerry put his hand on my shoulder and said to me, "Scotty, I know what you think of me....but there is the worlds greatest steel player". He was referring to Buddy. That demonstrated to me that Jerry was aware of other players and didn't hestitate to acknowledge when another player had talent. Jerry was a professional in every sense of the word and left us with a wealth of his music to listen to.
Everytime I was with Jerry, and when we parted for home, I always felt a little wiser. I would go to the airport to see him off. Once when we were in Nashville he was flying to Cincinnatti to visit with Al Stotler and I watched out the airport window until the plane was out of sight. I miss Jerry so much. Scotty |

Ray - I agree that the little bakolites do have great sound. Also enjoyed Jerry's rendition of Bells of St. Mary this week. I believe this is from JB's "Master of Touch and tone" album.
Many of us look forward to the JB postings each week. Keep up the good work!
