Topic: Worth of MCI Range Expander D-10? |

Can anybody give me a worth estimate on an MCI Range Expander D-10, very clean? I don't own it, just came across it somewhere. I have no pics. Just a ballpark would be great.

I received an accurate estimate by email (thanks, J.P.). One of the best sounding guitars I've ever played, by the way. What a tone. With worn out strings and dust all over it, it still sang lke a bird.

By the way this guitar sounded, I'm not surprised that they retail for over $2,000. Effortless sustain, beautiful tone and really comfortable to play. As a Sho~Bud fan, I was a bit floored at how much I liked this guitar. It lived up to everything I have heard and read about the Arlington MCI/EMCI welded frame guitars. Fortunately for fans of these guitars, their greatness still seems to be a well-kept secret outside the steel world, which makes possible an unexpected great deal every now and then.

| I have an MCI 8-8 that I traded for and when I first heard it I was floored by the sound.I set up my 66 push pull for comparsion and they seem to be equal or in the same area as far as sustain and tone.I,m still a pushpull snob but this MCI makes me very uncomfortable. lakeshrk |

A few months back I stopped by a club to see if I knew any of the band. My old friend and steel instructor Steve lamb was playing there.
When they took a break, I walked up and saw he was playing an MCI through one of the new SE200 Evans. What a great sound he had that night. |

Imagine if Gretsch reissued the Sho~Bud and the MCI.....that would be really cool. But knowing their track record for shutting down great steel guitars, this will most likely never happen.

| Chris, I own an EMCI and a '69 PP and I love both those guitars. I've done a comparison recording of both of them on the same piece and same amp and i have trouble telling them apart. It's about 20 years old but plays like a new guitar (it was treated very well by it's previous owner.) Only down side, they're orphan guitars but parts can be had. |

John,
I recall a recent thread with a video link to Jay Dee playing an
(E?)MCI. Everyone commented on how great his "PP" sounded, but Jay Dee chimed in later to say that it was his EMCI (or MCI, I can't recall)....very interesting, to say the least. I saw the link, and his guitar didn't have a logo. Therefore, everyone just assumed........

I have an MCI sd 10 and it is a 1986 model. I also have an SD10 Carter 2006 model. I play each for a month and swop each month. I hate to admit it but that 20 year old MCI is the best sounding guitar, and easiest to play mechanically that I have ever had. I also like the carter, and use it mainly for gigs because it is so light. However, my studio guitar is my MCI and I will never sell it. Actually I wish I could find another MCI just in case my current one ever breaks down.

The MCI - EMCI has a sound very similar to a Emmons Push-Pull. The high end is very clean, but the most noticeable difference is the clarity of the bass strings. The mid-range is clear and clean, as well.
I describe the sound of the strings like the sound of a six-string electric guitar. After owning many steel guitars the last 25 years, this EMCI has the best sound (12 String Universal).

| Alittle trivia here : When Buddy and George Lewis were inventing the E66 steel guitar pickup, they kept experimenting until Buddy's EMCI sounded as close as they could get it to the Emmons Buddy was playing. Thus, the great sound of the EMCI with E66 Pickups. Jody. |
