A few months ago my friend Karla Pilgrim sang in Nashville @ Tootsies. She sent me this picture and I'm curious who is playing steel with her.

That would be Marty Chambers, long time steeler on Lower Broad. Marty and his wife Janet are good friends of ours and arel expecting their first child in about a week. Marty's playing a red and black MCI like BE used to have and uses a Session 400 amp.

yes Marty a very fine player. I don't know him personally but have a story.

A year or so back while visiting in town my wife ( Bonnie ) and I went on down to Broadway ( Tootsies) for the afternoon. We always like seeing Jimmy Snyder, he's a fine singer and a fun guy to listen to. Marty was sitting in with him that one afternoon.

Well, Bonnie decided she wants to sing..she talks to Jimmy and
he's like yeh Man bring it on...She gets up on stage, hooks up with Marty and says "Someday Soon..Play it like Buddy"..he looks at her, then looks at me then says " I can't " then points at me and says " Neither can he "..we all laughed and he kicked it off and he "Played it like Buddy"....

We talked for a minute or two later on and he told us it was just an educated guess that I was a Steeler..who else would have a wife that would ask a Steel Player to " Play it like Buddy "..

Marty is one fine player, I hope I have a chance to see and hear him play again soon.

I met Marty a few years back in Tootsies (I'm pretty sure it was Marty). If I remember correctly, he was originally from Canada - Hamilton, Ontario or thereabouts. We had some acquaintances in common from the Toronto circuit. Nice guy and fine player.
