I own a D-8 Stringmaster,1970's vintage I think. Anyway the pickups have the plastic covers. I'm pretty sure the pickups are just single coil with individual magnets for each pole. Problem is...they sound terrible. With new strings on the steel, certain strings sound much louder than others, and on both necks,string#1 sounds very weak, like the magnet is not positioned under it. My first question is: can the magnets be re-charged/re-magnetized with out re-doing the windings? Seems like you would only need a good electro-magnet to charge them. In lieu of that, who makes good 8-string pickups that will fit a Stringmaster?
