another new guy

Post by Dave Biller »

greetings, fellas. i've been a musician for the last 29 years and not too long ago made the switch to PSG, which i am now (as we say in TX) "ate up" with. i now hold the dubious distinction of being the worst steel player in Austin. when you consider the level of the players in this area, being the worst ain't too bad! i've also been blessed to get to play guitar in the fabulous Bobby Flores band for the last 2 years. i get to trade licks with my hero Randy Reinhard every week, as well as absorb as much knowledge from my mentor, Jim Loessberg (who plays drums in the band) as i can stand. and then, ofcourse, there's Bobby, a great steel player, himself, and all around, maybe the best musician i've ever known. if i don't eventually become a good steel player it'll be my own fault!!

anyway, i'm honored to be a new forum member and i look forward to learning even more from you fine gentleman. dave

welcome dave-
I'm a big fan of your guitar playing.
And now you've taken up steel... another instrument you'll kick my butt at!
do you still do the Biller & Wakefield thing? Jeremy's certainly no slouch either.

best wishes.

Hi Dave , welcome..

and don't worry about the dubious distinction of being the worst steel player on the planet, we have each held that title at one time or another, some of us may still be competing for it ! :)

Welcome, Dave. We can always use more Texans on this Forum!

Dave,

Welcome to the fabulous world of PSG. I have been at it since late November this past year. This forum has been a great asset and it can be fun. Some of the responses can be long winded, when you just wanted a Yes or No answer. But thats the good thing about it, theres soo many people in here with the knowledge, the responses can be overwhelming. I am hooked more than I expected myself to be at this point, and every week it seems to get better! Good Luck and Welcome! :D

Welcome from Oklahoma, Dave! My son and I caught Bobby and the band down at the Trio club the night Joan Cox covered for Randy. We were amazed at your tele pickin', and I doubt that you will take but a moment to dial in that steel of yours.

Isn't it a Fingertip that you play, that Ricky Davis refurbed? Those are real tone monsters.

Dave,
Welcome to the Forum, and don't worry about being the worst steel player in Austin, here in Kingman Az. with folks like Chuck Back, and Bill Bailey I zero in right at the bottom of the pile myself!!

Then how do you think it feels to still be the worst steel player in the greater Nashville area? I've been at it for 62 years and probably have held the title longer than any human. But I still love it.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

Welcome Dave,
I've been a fan of yours for about ten years. I first heard you on "Wayne the Train's" Thats What Daddy Wants. Then on countless other recordings.

Well, when you get thoughts of takin' a chain saw to your steel just keep your head down and work past it. If you pick up on the steel guitar like your lead guitar pickin' It'll all be goooood.

One of your biggest fans, Bill

Welcome, Dave. I've also regularly tuned into your guitar playing since I heard it on one of Dale Watson's early CDs quite a few years ago. I'm another guitar-player turns to steel guitar. There's a lot of us out here, I think.

WELL! it appears some of you are familar with my guitar noodling. i sure appreciate the kind thoughts. yep i'm still playing that fingertip (original pickups, yes). it's clunky and a bit temperamental, and just dripping with tone. i have to flip it upside down and fix it right there in the middle of a gig sometimes, but i love it.

Jussi, i won't being doing my half-baked Barney thing this year at Green Bay, but i will be there spying on you at every one of your shows! ;)
