A friend of mine has a "Recording King" lap steel,6 strings,sunburst color.He said it was made by Gibson in the mid-late '40's.It's in fair condition.The name is stenciled on the headstock in gold letters.It has a polished aluminum pick up with 2 bars in the p/u.Also has a tone and volume con
trol.Anyone seen or heard of one of these? |

| I have a Recording King with the cord coming out of the guitar. It has a pretty hefty vintage hum, and a tone i wouldn't exactly call sweet. I think just because it was made by Gibson, doesn't make it special. It's for sale, if anyone's interested. (and who wouldn't be, after such a glowing review!) |

| some Recording Kings had a Charlie Christian pickup that had the bobbin ends rounded instead of faceted like GIBSON eh-150. These are pretty nice. |

I can't believe what people are trying to sell old steels for ,on prices. Elderly never ever sold anything reasonable, always top dollar.
I figure the bottom will drop out of the value of most of this old stuff at some point down the road.
The other thing I see, is bakelites being sold for the same money that old wooden steels with questionable tone are going for.
Last fall I bought an old Vega six string on Ebay for $149, just around what it was worth.
When you see an old Gibson BR9 that some idiot wants close to a grand for at"buy it now " price, you really wonder where all this is going.
The collector thing seems to be mixed with the players who just want an instrument to use.  |

Amen. It makes Remington Steels look better and better, though, even for a (relative) beginner. |

Gentlemen,thank you for your responses and interest in this post.The pictures that have been posted look exactly like the guitar I've asked about,with one exception:the script on the headstock is just the "Gibson"script you see on so many older Gibson guitars.If I can ever get around to getting some pictures of this guitar,I will try to post them for you.
