I found a old steel for sale. No name, cast aluminum with a large feather crest at the head.1930,s?. 6 string wood finger board, eight sided body with removable back,(screws) and a suspended pickup. weight about 8lbs +.The same crest only smaller appears at the bridge. Any clues? |

That doesn't sound familiar to me. Can you post a photo or send me a photo via email?

Sounds like it could be a mid-thirties Harmony. [This message was edited by John Dahms on 18 April 2006 at 05:33 PM.] |

"5 out of 10 condition" does not sound good. Restoration work on these is difficult and expensive. One of my students was given one of these in rough condition. The tuners were broken and had to be replaced. New holes had to be drilled to accomodate the new tuners because the old ones were an odd size. The guitar sounds okay, but it has a slight hum due to the ancient electronics. There is a U-shaped magnet inside. IMHO it's not a good player guitar, but it Looks Fantastic!! It is also very rare, as it was only made for one year (1936), and was only availble through the Sears catalog. I wouldn't pay too much for one that needs work.

Doug Beaumier is correct in every respect on this guitar. The pickup is a chore to remove and repair which I did. Sold it soon as I could. It will make a nice piece of wall hanging art.
