| Few solo instruments shine as well as the steel guitar does when backed by a full string orchestra. "Send my Heart to the Dead Letter Office" by Guy Mitchell is with a full orchestra and can be heard on the Jerry Byrd Fan Club Web Site...... It's Jerry's early Rickenbacher with that fabulous TONE........a tone that is hard to forget, once you've identified with it. |

Bill..........I place this series of tunes on that ablum right up there with the likes of Duane Eddy's album that featured Buddy Emmons. Both sessions gave the steel guitar such clarity and definition.
One can almost "SEE" what the two players are doing as they listen to the record.
The steel was not lost in a smattering of other studio noisce........so common with run of the mill recordings of the era. |

RAY you have shared a number of tunes from your collection. That is one of the best ways I can think of to keep JERRY's music alive! A simple thank you doesn't seem like enough,but I really appreciate your sharing so much with the rest of us!

My good friend Gentleman Wayne Tanner from down Texas way was kind enough to send me an email I tho't you'all might be interested in.
It was at this session with Guy Mitchel, that JERRY BYRD encountered Mitch Miller who produced the album for Mitchell.
Jerry confessed quite readily that he could not read music. Amazing! You'd never know it by what you heard, right? |

Howzit Ray, We just saw the Royal Hawaiian Band here in Kona, on the Big Island. They put on a great show and of course the Steel played a big part in supplying that Hawaiian sound that only the steel can add.

One of the biggest thrills of my life was working w/ Brenda Lee,in the production of "Music,Music,Music" at Opryland theme park. They threw me in the middle of a 16 pc. orch. Strings,horns,the whole works. Man,I felt like Jaoquin Murphey w/ Spade Cooley. WHATTA KICK!! I did the show for the last 2 yrs. of the park. (There,probably,blamin' me for the park closin'.  )
