Just finished listening to the broadcast from The Texas Troubador Theater......really enjoyed hearing Buddy Emmons and Johnny Bush together.If any Forum members were in attendance maybe they can verify whether or not Buddy played his Zum Hybrid and what amp he used .
Maybe someone may have a few pics to post. |

Man... what a show! Buddy's tone was bell like... that hybrid rang beautifully! I have pics, for sure; says "hybrid" right on the front. Not sure what Peavey amp he was using.

Great show,well worth staying up for it goes on at 1:am down here in FLa. Johnny sounded a little hoarse but being the trooper he is, he hung in there and made the band sound great.  Johnny must have had it hard to round up a decent bunch of players to have to settle for that bunch.  But they got the job done fer a bunch of senior citizens.  |

I had just got back in town from Birmingham AL and hadn't been home yet, but it sure was worth it! (And for those of you who know me, you know I go to bed early) 
I believe the steel community was represented well. They turned the lights out on us about 2:15 am trying to clear the hall. (The nerve!) Mostly all steel players mingling around the room, and a rather large group at that! I apologize to anyone I didn't get to say hello to. There were just too many with too little time.

Apparently the Midnight Jamboree is no longer broadcast from the E.T. Record Shop at 417 Broadway.
I still remember my first trip to Nashville in May of 1963. I went to the E.T. Record Shop after the Opry and Pete Drake was the steel player that night. |

| In 1963 the Friday night Opry was in WSMs small auditorium, at the radio station. I saw a very young Loretta Lynn & Margie Bowes at that Friday night Opry. Too bad I didn't have a camera back then. |

I was there and indeed it was a worthwhile trip from 250 miles away. Buddy used his rack with his lexicon, his Rev preamp into his single NV112 PA input. The amp was miced to the house. Great tone great taste great playing and lots of fun for us that got to be there. Thanks JB and BE.

I was listening! I had it tuned in via the internet and caught most of the show. Just Spectacular!
I would have given just about anything to be there with all you guys! I know the camaraderie and friendships that we all share as steelers means even a little bit more when we see eachother at functions like this one.

| I wish I could have heard Buddy Pick, But I had a gig with The Alan Rudd Band. I sure like Johnny Bushs Music, I got play steel for him several times in Texas, With David Price and The Texas Swing Band. I sure miss the good Texas music days. |

Mike, Mikey, & Tommy: Wow, It must be a great honor for a steel player of Big E's Caliber , as # 1, in his profession, to have so many folks of such fine musical abilities, being there to watch and hear him play. I am curious about this "HYBRID" Zum Steel which you mentioned him playing. Not familiar with the classification, as a steel guitar? Cars; yes.. thanks.. Bernie

I have very little understanding of it, Bernie. My take on the hybrid is it tunes the raises at the key head like a P/P, open and lowers at the changer, like a P/P, but it does something like the all pull guitars. Someone that knows the mechanism fully really needs to chime in... all I know is it sounded just like an old P/P to me that night. Clear, bell like tone, sustain for days...
