Just wondering Rick, what happened to the outdoor stage you built? Did you ever use it or was the weather not permitting?

That's Dave Hancock from Georgia ... came up "by rail" to get a couple knobs I made for his Ricky Silver Hawaiian ... played a mean "harp" ... and had some great stories.

Andy ... Thur & Fri ... blue skys & gentle breeze ... Hi's in the low 70s. Thunderstorms came thru Fri nite ... and it rained all day Sat ... with temps reaching a max of 47 F & wind gusts up to 30 mph.

So y'all are lookin' at ... Plan C ... gut the Greatroom ... and hope everyone fits in ...

Chrissy counted 63 Summiteers ...

Anyway ... got some AAs to retrieve my photo ... and surprise ... I actually had taken two on Fri.

Special Mahalos ...

Mahalo Howard ... for the NYC Italian Market Sausages ... that everyone feasted on ...

Mahalo Harry ... for the "John Holmes" Baloney ... and the "Shoo Fly Pies" ... they were great ... even without the "Apple Pandowdy".

Mahalo Jeff ... for the "Sailor Jerry Rum" ... maybe next year, we'll head down to the local tatoo parlor after imbibin' ....

Especially you, Rick, and yes, I was listening, and yes, you are my favorite steel guitar player.

Thanks for posting all the photos guys. It was a lot of fun and great to see everybody. And to Rick and Chris and all the kids, thanks for organizing and hosting the event and turning your house over to the likes of us for weekend.

I want to chime in (finally-- I've been catching up on my sleep the last 48 hrs

) to say congratulations and many thanks to Rick and Chris for making possible such an outstanding house-concert/ music party. A chance to make new friends and to hear hour after hour of amazing music...I know the folks who showed up for this one will remember the occasion for a good long time.

Howard, is that the Bonanzinga that was at Lark Street? I was hoping to play that guitar last month when I was supposed to visit NY on business (bad weather messed up my plans). It looks beautiful, and if his reputation for Gibson-style guitars carries over to his Weiss-style guitars, it must be a fantastic instrument.

I can't understand how everyone looks 10-20 years younger than their musical experiences would suggest. Did you all start playing in the crib?

By the way, is that Dan Eason bending over to talk to Bill Schmeidlin in the group pic?

Most digital photo editing software packages have a feature called "soften image". It smooths out skin wrinkles.

What they really need is a feature called "gastric bypass".

John, I don't know if it was on Lark St., but I bought it from the forum Instruments For Sale section

Although I've heard them in concert, I've never had the experience of playing a non resophonic Weissenborn style guitar before this one.

It's beautifully made (quilted mahogany & spruce) and those who played it gave it rave reviews. I tend to agree.

So you don't like my singing, huh Howard?

I'm not much of a singer. That's why I've developed my instrumental skills over the years.

There were two reasons I chose to sing at Ricks last Saturday.

1. The ukulele lends itself to vocals.
2. I wanted to show Bliss & Carla how it's really done.

Here's the tune I sang at Ricks. It's from a 1981 recording of the Lost World String Band when we played on NPR's Prairie Home Companion Show. My wife (girlfriend at the time) and I wrote the parody.

Remember... my "unique vocal stylings" were being broadcast live over the entire North American continent.

The next day I received a telegram from the FCC informing me to concentrate on my instrumental skills or face Federal criminal prosecution.

Now that you mention it I do remember the Moonlighters having a bass player! I guess I was distracted by the absolutely fantastic harmony singing and Mike Neer's spine-tingling back up and solos. These guys are tight. And seriously Andrew is perfect for their sound and right up there with them talent wise.

Also thanks mucho to my old friend Gerald Ross for backing me up. What a great all around musician and cool guy.

Rick got out the Bronzepan about 1 AM and made sure the heat stayed on all night. Thanks again.

Uh, Dave... that was about 3 AM. About seven hours after the last "official" performance of the fest. The music just kept on going.
