Ain't it a steel solo that starts at 1:28 on Patty Loveless' song How about you? It sounds like a hammer on-pull off thing on open strings with pedals AB down to me, but our guitarist insists it's a guitar solo.
What do you say, boys and girls?
A cheeseburger is at stake here because of a bet.

HE HE HE!!! I thought the only Pickers using AB pedal Down Hammer on/Pull Off was us Cajun pickers trying to keep up with Joel Sonnier's Accordion playing 99 MPH or Picker's playing Bluegrass Banjo rolls.
Sure sounded to me like something I had heard done years back by a steel player playing with a Boogie Grass group about 25+ years back . Never did get that Steel players name but he was super fast and super clean. Sounded like he was pick blocking before it became popular. Very Happy

It starts with pedal steel for 4 bars ((Paul Franklin unless I'm mistaken), then the guitar comes in for 4 bars. The solo ends with pedal steel.
