Man, that's bass ackwards!
The necks would have to be reversed, which means the diamonds
and logo would go on the other side of each neck.
Presumably the pots would be reversed, and the nut as well.
Notice the front neck has 2 high strings for 7 & 8 (that need tightening)
Maybe it has the infamous F#13th tuning . .

It's not that the guitar is worth so much, it's that 3 grand is worth so LITTLE nowadays.

Anyway, GFAO (go find another one)! This one is the rarest of the rare without it being a "celebrity" guitar. I've been playing steel guitar in one way or another since 1962... including 10 years in Southern California... and I've NEVER seen one of these!

If a player plays lefty, this is the one. I'm interested to see what price it reaches, if BIN doesn't happen.

...still do not understand why steel guitars suffer such abuse. I have a violin (Genoa, Italy) that is 100 years old, this year. The only wear is on the back of the neck, where the palm rests. It's difficult to see a scratch on it.

Whoeve "LEON" was, man he sure didn't know how to look after a great guitar. It's seen better days and appears to be well used....

Over here the terminology 'Patina' is more common.

If this is legit, the "custom order" is quite minimal.

All that was done was to swap neck heights and put the Fender decal on the other neck. The diamond sizes were also swapped. They didn't even rotate the metal Fender nameplate.

If this was a homemade modification done early enough in it's life, it would be hard to discern.

I agree with Baz....this "patina" laden lefty is "the real deal"!!

The seller, at least, provided an inordinate number of pictures for our prying eyes.

I had a Walnut colured Fender D6 long, long ago ("60's & 70's). It marked up far too easlily. More than you would ever expect with a little more than normal use. Plus, the Swamp Ash is so light underneath, any scratch makes it look worse than it really is.

Yes, a "lefty" is extremely rare coming out of the Fender Hangar at Fullerton, Ca. Seems like a collector more than a player would grab onto this one. After all, how many Lefty players are out there, eh? I've only seen one Lefty PSG player, ever..Hmmmm, I know he can do the $3000....TX

Sorry Paul, but I think you're wrong. The logo plate is the right way 'round for a lefty.
For sure this guitar started life as a left-handed custom order.

The shots of the cavities prove that it's left-handed look at the hole for the cable outs on the bigger neck.. only one set. If it was a conversion there would have to have been blanked holes in the cavity, also check out the jack socket in the cavity pictures and the REVERSED tone an volume pots .

Rick, I didn't say I approved of guitars having a weathered look like their owners.

I for one TRY and keep mine as close to pristine as possum.. oops I mean possible. Another thread has taken over my train of thought temporarily.

I was ready to buy it when it disappeared... maybe my Left handed Console Grand is out there somewhere waiting for me.

Keep me in mind if you guys see one.

Sad to think that this may have been my only chance in life to own a real stringmaster.

Just a belated thought, why not contact the winning bidder. Inquire what his intentions are for the Lefty Fender Sringmaster D8?

You never know, at least let him know you are interested, even if its down the road in time. It may be worth the wait.

I'm sure it's not one of a kind but, as you know, Lefty's are very rare. Right now you know where one of "em" is. Good Luck...TX
