Auction on eBay.
Is that really worth $1300?
I would love to have one, but sheesh. |

so, what would YOU pay for it? What does the non-original decal make you think? That the whole instrument is fake or that someone is just trying to make it look barely used? |

I informed the seller it was a Deluxe 6. I stated I did not think those decals were original. He informed me they were. I have never seen any on a Deluxe or Stringmaster or in fact any Fender? I do not think this person is an authority as he did not even know what model he was selling so his take on the decals may be incorrect.
No one really bids when a listing is going to run for a week until later in the game. Early bidding only jacks up the price. Many buyers seem to bid during that last few seconds. At least that is my observation. I believe $750 would be fair if a person could get those decals off easy. Fenders are top sellers and nice examples are getting harder to come by.
I have a Deluxe 6 for sale that works perfectly. Good legs, old brown tolex case. It has some dings but the tuning pan is near perfect as is the chrome around the pickup. One knob has some chrome peeling off. It's a great player. I have thought of getting it up on eBay. Anyone seriously interested may email me and I'll get some photos at some point. |

This is called sniping, and while a lot of people don't like the practice it is just a fact of life in an electronic auction. The only reason it works is that people tend not to bid their true maximum price in the early bidding.
There are bidding agents available that will automatically place a bid for you within the last few seconds.
Here is a somewhat comparable closed auction. Just from the lack of aging on the finish it appears that the current instrument may be a fairly late model. _________________ Lynn Oliver

That's a good price. During that last few months, I have seen some Deluxe 8's go for around $1000 and some had cosmetic issues.
The pot codes are a real good way of telling age if they are original. |

It looks to be mighty clean and never abused. The case is pristine ! Those stripes are definitely an add-on, no question. If you feel it is worth the price, then go for it. Not too many around looking as good as that one ! JMHO |

I agree. If someone wants a real clean Deluxe 6, this looks to be about as nice as they come. |

Thanks guys. I'll keep an eye on it. So, are the mixing wheels and tuner pans really that fragile? |

People misplace the wheels and the only issue with a tuner pan I know of is that the owners do not lube the gears of the tuners. Most gears will go for decades and they are replaceable. |

Looks like a nice instrument. To me though, it's still only six strings. Fenders are getting like Piper Cubs, which are going for 40 grand these days. but still a puddle jumper airplane, but with tons of nostalgia. I like Stringmasters, but not enough to pay 2 grand for one. I played a couple of the Fender Champs and was not impressed a bit. A six string guitar worth a lot of money would have to be (to me) an early Rick frypan.

Yeah, that's pretty crazy. It was in good shape, but come on!
I think I'll stick to my Guyatone copy for now. |
