I wanted to let everyone know that Johnny and Justin will be on their way to Nashville this week to do the Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree Saturday night. I wish I could go, but I'm playing at my club gig. Hope you can all attend. If you all haven't seen Johnny in awhile, you'll be very surprised at how different he looks..He's down 115 lbs, and looks great! Make sure you stop by and say "Hi".

My wife and I planned a trip to Nashville this weekend. I was very happy to see that Justin and Johnny are going to be at the ET Record Shop. We will be there. Hopefully on the front row.
Mr. Cox is one of the all time greatest!

Wow..For all the people that say there is not enough Country out there all you had to do was to tune in the ET Midnight Jamboree and hear Justin Trevino. Justin and Johnny Cox were just what the doctor ordered and Country Music needs. Justin was worth me staying up until I  AM my time to hear for the very first time. With Johnny Cox and Leon Rhodes Ken Sears in the Band what a sound. And the very great voice of Dawn Sears who sounded like she was on a CD in a Jukebox what a great Voice. What a super show this was. Justin is a great Singer entertainer. Leona's Boy Ron Williams sounded great also. Great night for Country Music. |

It don't get any better than Justin to me. He's my favorite singer from this generation. He did a great job of hosting the show. It was good to see Leon. The whole band was good. It's a shame that Nashville has to import real country music, but if they do you can't go wrong with Justin.  |

| Listened on 650AM. Great show, especially the steel picker, JC. I don't know why Dawn Sears is not a regular on CMT/GAC. She's just as good or better than anybody out there, anywhere. |

| If you ever get one of Dawns 2 CD's you have got to hear her sing the Willie Rainsfords hit "No Relief in Sight". I know Johnny Russell and Con Hunley and others have recorded the song,You have just got to hear Dawns version w/John Hughey also on PS.and all over the CD's. Of Course Kennys also fiddlin around on the Cd's also. There is not a bad song on either CD. Her Vocals leave me to wonder what kind of hearing the suits have that she has not been given a label and backing. Of course I wonderd that also when I first heard Willie's version back in the late 70's. |

Thanks to all of you for the great compliments. It is always great to see my old friends here in Nashville. It was an absolute pleasure to get to play with such great players like Leon Rhodes, Willie Cantu, Kenny Sears, Drew Covington and Walt Cunningham. Of coarse no one sings or plays better than my pal Justin Trevino. Dawn Sears is always a hi-lite to any show. Ron Williams is just finishing a new CD produced by Justin and I had the honor to play on this great project along with Justin's regular team of studio players. Be looking for it soon on Heart Of Texas Records.
With all the comments about keeping our kind of music alive, and why do you have to import country music into Nashville, I feel I need to share something from my heart. I was disappointed in the turn out last night. We had about half a house at the Troubadour theater. I hear people complain daily about the state of country music, like,We can't find anywhere to see and hear real country music. Nobody makes real country records anymore and so on. So where were these people Saturday night. In order to keep this music alive we have to have you, the fans. You have to get off the couch and come to the shows and dances. In order for us to keep making good traditional country records your have to buy them. We want to keep this music alive for generations to come but we have to have your help. Justin, Darrell McCall, Bobby Flores, Jake Hooker, Johnny Bush, Jody Nix, Amber Digby and many other artist are doing their part to get the music to you. People like Tracy Pitcox, Justin Trevino, Jim Loessberg and a few others are investing many hours and many more dollars producing, manufacturing and distributing products for you, the fans. And David McCormick, owner of the Ernest Tubb Record Shops, is making these products available to you. So when a new CD of one of these traditional artist comes out, buy it. Please don't get your buddy to burn you a copy. When one of these artist has a show or dance near you go and buy a ticket. We can stay home and play for our enjoyment. We travel all over so you can enjoy live country music with fiddles and steels and free of pink tennis shoes and light shows.
WE HAVE TO HAVE YOUR SUPPORT OR OUR MUSIC WILL DIE.
It's up to all of us to keep it alive. We will keep doing our part as long as the fans keep coming to see us and buying the records.

My wife and I were there. It was great. Pure country music. I agree with what Mr. Cox stated in the post above. We drove all the way up from Mississippi to see Justin Trevino and Johnny Cox do a real country music show. We need to support real country music artists.
My inner being craves those 4/4 shuffles, and Justin was laying out one right after another. It was awesome. Thanks for a great show Mr. Cox.

Johnny is right. If a traditional artist books in Knoxville they probably won't draw 100 people. "It cost too much, or I've already heard them do everything they'll do" But, you want to fuss because they don't play it on the radio.....so you can hear it for free. We'll they do play it on the radio....XM Willie's Place...cost you about $12 per month and you can hear the real thing 24 hours a day with no commercials. You don't care to pay for cable TV because you can't see what you want on the free channels with rabbit ears. So, why not pay for the music you want to hear. The radio stations are going to play what makes them the most money and us lovers of tradition country music with bunches of fiddles and steel ain't it. Not at the present time anyway. We are the minority. Sad but true.
The part I don't understand is the chicken and egg thing: Is what's played on the radio what people want to hear, or do they want to hear it because it's being played on the radio and is popular. I tend to think it's the later, because the general public (not musicians and singers) want to be associated with the winners, and the radio stations tell them who that is. If the top 40 country stations played Justin every 15 minutes for 3 months, I think he could pack the house about anywhere.
One good thing for CD's sales though. I've bought all of Justin's, Jake's, Leona's, Amber's, Dicky's, etc...I could get my hands on and I'll buy more as soon as it's available. I'm not in a position to speak for anyone else and say it's the best music, but it suits my personal taste and I'm willing to pay for that.
My opinion anyway. |
