Ed Gerhard plays Weissenborn

Ed Gerhard tipped me to this cool performance from the Woodsongs show. Ed really lets notes and chords have their due. His electric steel playing sounds like nobody elses. His new CD Sunnyland has some beautiful lap and standard guitar playing.

That was absolutely beautiful !! I noticed , no steel finger picks !! You evidently can get a more delicate touch just using your finger tips and/or nails !! Ed G is a master on that guitar !! Enjoyed very much !!

Ed is a fabulous guitar player and a genuinely great guy. He teaches at the National Guitar Workshop in San Francisco every year and I have had the immense pleasure of taking a class from him. He can talk for hours about lap steel guitars. Check out his CD "House of Guitars". He bought a bunch of pawn shop guitars, including Supro and Oahu steels, then recorded with them (and for the most part, didn't even change the ancient, rusty strings!) Listening to that album is truly a humbling experience! He plays solo gigs all over the world, tours with Arlo Guthrie, and still takes the time to share his musical knowledge with us wannabes. Thanks for posting!
