Two 4 & 8 chan firewire interfaces

Post by David L. Donald »

PreSonus Inspire 1394 FireWire Audio Interface
A pretty good looking unit,
4 mic inputs and 2 x 2 outputs.

I have 2 Presonus units,
but not this one,
seems pretty well laid out.

The Firepod was something I got questioned about,
by Presonus when they were designing it

I've got a Firepod. I was very happy with it until it broke down. I sent it off to Presonus to get it fixed. In the meantime I found a new Mackie 400F for $550 on ebay. I hooked it up and was stunned. If you directly A/B the two units, the 400F has a much more detailed, crisp, open sound. I'm not talking about the pre's, but rather the convertors in the unit.

One other thing... my comments were not meant as a slam on Presonus. They are a great group of folks. I've got their ADL600 and it is pretty nice. Like everything, pricepoints dictate compromises. Now, I'm looking at other options like Apogee and Mytek.
