Music theory

There are many arrangment tabs available for all differnt styles of music, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any books or other resources, short of enrolling in college, to help come up with arrangements, when you have a given melody to start with? Or is this just a natural ability your develope from listening to many, many recordings until you get the sound you want so firmly emplanted in your head, that you can find a way to transfer it to the strings? -- thanks JimJ

Check out Mike Perlowin's book for music theory. I just recently purchased it to learn "more" theory.

Email him as he has a Steel guitar supplement to use with his book. you won't be disappointed.

A good understanding of music theory (with dictation practice) will certainly go a long way. It would be well worth the cost of tuition if you're serious about music. I suggest starting with a "rudiments of music" class. If you like that, then go on with the music theory class.
