I flipped on Midwest Country last night as the young lady singer featured had the gentleman with the silver hair pulled back in a ponytail as the steeler part of her back up. When I usually see him on the program he plays PSG. It appeared he was playing a non pedal D8 set up to the side and was playing with slants using a stevens bar. Really sounded sweet . Actually when he switched to the E9 it didn't quite sound as interesting for some reason.

I have been there and I watch the show often. Turned it off last night when second performer came on. Have seen her b4. Joe usually plays the pedal steel and sometimes plays a Dobro with Blue Grass performers. Have never noticed a non pedal steel. Junior

That would have been me with the pony tail.
I think it was a tribute to Kitty Wells. I was playing a Console Grand that I had just bought. I never use a Stevens bar on the steel so it must have been an optical illusion....? It was fun to play straight steel. Don't get to play them enough. I was trying to sound authentic for the music.
Thanks.

Leonard Zinn told me that he loves the straight steel, but he had to make a living in country music, so the pedal steel was necessary. Of course he plays both excellent.

Joe ;
Thanks for chiming in on which guitar you were using .I couldn't see what it was , but it sure sounded sweet . And yes , it was a Kitty Wells number or 2 last Saturday night. Thank goodness for RFD TV .
