It just occurred to me while driving down the highway one recent night, rain pelting my 18 wheeler on all sides, including bouts of snow pellets, and a dastardly cross wind of phenominal proportions.....while seeing to it that YOUR MAIL got thro' in a timely fashion.......
I got to wondering.

Jerry Byrd sent out thousands of hand written letters to fans all over the globe.
I tho't it might be interesting if the jbfc sorta served as a central filing point for "copies" of all those letters. The jbfc would gladly do this "free of charge" and only "copies" of the original letters would be accepted. I could glean thro' them and take out "pertinent facts" that could be included in the jbfc pages so that EVERYONE might benefit from Jerry's words of wisdom or whatever. Nothing would be used to embarass anyone. Just facts about HIS PLAYING would be used so no need to use heavy black felt pens or the scissors (ala WWII) to censor the letters
WHAT DO YOU think of this idea? Maybe not so good? I've used my many hand written letters and audio tapes from Jerry to form the foundation of the jbfc. Other research went far back in the early 1950's from the original JBFC.

Ray, that sounds like a cool idea to me. I don't have anything to offer but would love to see something like that available.

Ohhhhh Ray ...

I just went and looked ... I have over 50 such letters ... and only one paragraph "fit to print" ...

All 50+ via self-addressed, stamped envelopes

All my correspondences revolved around "lessons via mail" ...

No friendship stuff (I never met him) ...

No stories ... No historical info ...

Simply me getting ... well, lets just say that I'll never need a colostomy ...

Cause I have about 250 "new ones" ... courtesy of JB ...

But I kept coming back ... year after year ... cause I may be alot of things ... but I ain't no fool ...

He'd always did try to throw in some encouragement ... even if you did have to read it between the lines ... using an Ovaltine Decoder Ring.

So here's my one and only entry, Ray ...

Hey Rick! Great to hear from YOU and of course, the others as well, but.........

sadly a portion of your post was seriously blacked out. I'm sure it was a tragic accident. Is it possible that b0b's software package did that like MicroSoft keeps doin' to my incoming mail? Removing stuff, music, pix, etc.?

Oh yes, my address is: P.O. Box 16161, Portland, OR 97292-0161

Will look forward to receiving all the new stuff. I've got about twenty five pages yet to insert in the jbfc pages. I first had to transcribe them from the audio tapes and that took quite awhile. It should make some interesting reading as I see it and hope all others will agree.

Since so many of you have talked to Jerry about so many different topics I felt it just might hold the interest of ALL JB fans.

Here's a funny JB story.

I was already on the Board of Directors of the HSGA when I ordered some tab from JB a few years ago.

JB sent me the tab and a handwritten letter thanking me and encouraging my study.

He ended his letter with:

"you should consider joining the HSGA, we'd love to have you as a member".

Great idea Ray!
I have one letter I'd be glad to share. It doesn't deal with specifics so much, but it contains a pearl of wisdom or two . .
