Chopped Magnatone on eBay......AGAIN???

Post by Marvin Erickson »

Item #7382273 721 is presented as a D-8 steel guitar. No brand name is mentioned. It appears to me that it is in fact the back two necks of a Magnatone Maestro T-3 that have been chopped off. The Magnatone D-8 Lyric did not have the two pickups per neck, this guitar does. It is interesting that the seller does not picture the front of the guitar where the Magnatone brand name should be. He claimes not to know the brand. Am i correct?

I have a Magnatone Lyric D-8 (pix below) don't think the 'ebay d-8' is a Maggie? Mine has double row of pickups under chrome cover on each neck, clear tuners, nothing like that one.

Ebay one looks more 'Fender-ish' to me...(my Stringmaster 6 below) see the nut, fretboard ..et al ? yeah, maybe chopped off a T-8? dunno? It's not a Mag/Lyric i'm sure of that.

Yes, that (on ebay) was the style during the tail end of the Magnatone steel era. I much prefer the style just prior to that, like the Lyric in the pic Dan posted. In fact, too bad these don't appear very often, as I'd like to have a D-8 and S-8 if I could find them in great condition. There was a D-8 Lyric on ebay a while back that I let slip by. I have a T-8 Magnatone Maestro and really like playing it.
[This message was edited by Jeff Strouse on 14 January 2006 at 10:03 PM.]
