Well done Rick I really liked the intro. Where did you get that ?Is it your own ? I have been playing that tune for about a year now as an intro to 'Speak no Evil' (Wayne Shorter) I just play it straight thru 2 times. I play it in F and its written F although Mingus did it in G I think or was is Eb. I tried to record it and it sounded crap so well done great feel and use of the instrument. |

Thanks again everybody for making me feel so good! I can't believe I've hit the 100 mark!!
Richard...when I recorded that a couple years ago, I tried a few off the cuff intros on each take. After a few tries, that one seemed to flow from out of nowhere. One of those lucky moments that never seems to come when I'm trying to make it happen. Since then, I've actually had to relearn it so I can play it again sometime. BTW, I'll be in the UK next week playing bass with Gerry Hogan....I'll wave at ya across the Irish Sea. ![](http://steelguitarforum.com/smile.gif) |

This is a fine cut, much recomended listening!
Also I second ther recomendation of 'Court and Spark', super album.
And "Miles Of Aisles" the live album with the same band, but expanded material, and the 1st outing of Robin Ford, who had replaced LArry Carlton.
Cool stuff, well recorded.
Wish it had a steel player... but ya cain't haive ivry thang! ![](http://steelguitarforum.com/wink.gif) |

I have a feeling that this thread is due to be periodically resurrected!
I missed this first (and second) time around, because my ancient computer wasn't up to the task. Now we have a powerful new one AND high-speed, so at last I get to hear what everyone was marveling at....
Thank you, Rick! I haven't been so affected by a steel-guitar recording since Mike Smith's 'Jesus Loves Me'. I was utterly mesmerised, and I now have some idea what my friend, Gerry Hogan (as good as HE is!), must go through when you're standing right behind him on stage.
Back to the drawing board.....

Roger, thanks for resurrecting this! Isn't it great! My steel playing is at the "Chopsticks" level compared to the quality of this. It's so well arranged and executed, and such a nice feel.
BTW: you should hear Rick's Mum play piano! I have been privileged to hear a CD of her playing the most exquisite jazz - it was an education. All I can say is that Rick has learnt well!

This must have originally been posted before I got on the Forum. It is way good. Direct into the board really works for this. Mingus and Rahsan Roland Kirk on pedal steel - what a beautiful piece, so well done. ![](http://steelguitarforum.com/smile.gif) |

I must have missed this the first time around and after hearing it, I can only say that it is one of the best musical examples of ones playing I have EVER heard here on the forum. Man you need to do more of this!!! Absolutely fabulous!!
edit: Looked back through the thread and saw that I did not miss this. I said about the same thing the second time around!! Really fine.[This message was edited by Bill Hatcher on 28 December 2006 at 06:20 AM.] |

Rick, that is absolutely stellar! I wish my ear was developed to the point that I could identify all the notes in your chords. Would you consider tabbing the piece? I would happily pay whatever you wanted for a copy. This arrangement is exactly what my "mind's ear" wants to hear. |

Unspeakably wonderful!
I'm another who missed this before. It took my breath away! I've always shied away from C6th because I could never find anything on it that sounded modern and not "corny". Guess I can't blame the tuning any more!!!!!![This message was edited by Brint Hannay on 28 December 2006 at 08:35 AM.] |

Thanks again to all you guys! I'm still on a cloud because of the nice things you're saying.
Brint....I'm sure alot of us don't agree with the word "corny" since so many of the masters have put some incredible pieces of C6 music out into the world over the years. I must admit I have a couple pulls on my tuning that help me find the chords I couldn't find before, but if it wasn't for all the C6 greats (some who use only the basic tuning), I never would've bothered looking deeper.
Anyway, look what Randy Beavers is doing on E9, or even Jerry Douglas on his Dobro tuning. Very harmonically hip stuff on tunings that were'nt created with those sounds in mind ![Exclamation](images/smiles/icon_exclaim.gif) |
