The Outlaw Jam Band album was done at ARLYN STUDIO in Austin Texas. It appears it was produced by Jimmy himself.
Personal:
Jimmy Day-Steel
Willie Nelson-guitar
Bucky Meadows-guitar
Bobbie Nelson-piano
Danny Levin-fiddles,viola,cello,keyboards
David Zettner-bass
Mark Kuykendall-drums
Joe Gracy-mixing board
The jacket also says the album was made live with no headphones and no sperations.
I'm not sure if it just wasn't done in cassette form.
I hope this helps. |

Hi Petr,
I am certain they were originally only in cassette tape form. Also if memory serves me correct, both were released or came out during the 1980's.
Next, I have both of these tapes but it has been a number of years since I purchased them. In my opinion they are not some of Jimmy's best work, so I seldom listen to them. I have about everything he recorded. His best work in my opinion are the first two LPs he recorded titled "Golden Steel Guitar Hits," and "Strings of Steel;" these are now available on CD from Bear Family Records. Next his "All Those Years" L.P. and the "Jimmy Day and His Buddies Salute Don Helms," L.P.s are really good but after that his recording efforts just didn't compare with these earlier works.
I was told a story once that Jimmy was not satisfied with his work on his earliest recording and actually purchased the Master from the company and destroyed it. This may or may not be true, but it was what I was told by a fairly reliable source. Regardless, he was a great innovator and one of my favorites of the steel guitar. He sure played the steel with alot of feeling and he definetly inspired a bunch of us steel guitarists.
Hope this helps you!
GOD bless and Merry Christmas!

Adding two and two tracks of the albums.
Wonder, is it really Jimmy Day ?
Here are examples:
MR COUNTRY SOUL
Let It Be Me
I Wonder Where You Are Tonight
THE TEXAS OUTLAW JAM BAND
Smoke Smoke That Cigarette
Fraulein
These are full sized songs. It takes a few moments to load and listen.

For sure Jimmy on those tracks. Nobody else ever played like Jimmy. He was one of a kind and I for one miss him. |
