I watched a Chuck Berry special last night, that I think was taped in 1987. It had Keith Richards on lead and featured several guest singers. It was on "INHD" channel.
At the end of the show, they showed Chuck doing an acapella blues solo on a pedal steel and it looked like it could have been a Fender. |

Chuck Berry has played the steel guitar since the 50's. On one occasion he was touring with Bill Haley and the steel guitarist for the Comets took sick. Chuck filled in for him.
There are steel guitar instrumentals on some of Chuck's early LPs. |

Chuck Berry's pedal steel instrumental was "Deep Feeling" released in 1957 on the flip side of "School Days" (Chess 1653) It was also on his first LP "After School Session" (Chess 1426) "Deep Feeling" can be downloaded from iTunes.
I think I remember Chuck playing "Last Date" on pedal steel at the end of the "Hail Hail Rock & Roll" video.

| This movie came on again last night, and I had forgotten that he played pedal steel at the end. The tone was exactly like his 335! |

| I had a record when I was a kid called "Berry's Delights" that Chuck played steel on "Driftin' Blues"the same song Bobby Bland did,and later Paul Butterfield called it"Driftin' and Driftin'" good stuff. |
