Probably not a good idea to post your email address. |

Well, it's there in my profile, I don't mind if someone sends me some relevant info in email.

Wouldn't be a bad idea, though... other forums have them...

Hey Kyle, I really enjoyed your two tunes on myspace. You've got a cagey, honest voice that I find downhome, original, and fresh compared to country radio. I dig it! Also nice Shobud sounds there with some traditional Jerry Garcia type acrobatics. Keep it up!

Some Forumites who have birthdays (and are willing to admit it) can be found here:

(I, like b0b, would recommend against publishing one's email address. Spammers are devilishly good at snapping these up and inundating the unwary with junk email.)[This message was edited by Bill Llewellyn on 10 December 2006 at 08:49 PM.] |

With all due respect, I think it's a bad idea. The reason is that internet trollers would have even easier access to personal info about forum members.
Personally, I would much prefer if member profile info was restricted to forum members. As it is now, trollers and bots can now fairly easily harvest information about us. The tradeoff is the desire to make a certain amount of information available to other members, but not wanting that available to the entire internet community. IMO, of course. |

I was under the impression that the profile info WAS only available to forum members. (?)

Receiving emails from the forum, I used to assume they were always from forum members. But this isn't always the case. I've actually bought and sold items only to find out later that the transaction partner wasn't even a member of the forum. Fine people, regardless - but still I was under that assumption. Dealing with forum members does give a certain amount of security, and unfortunately most do not indicate that they are non-members. Many read here without ever joining, and avail of the buy/sell particularly. Anybody can click on your email address and inquire about an item. The only thing they can't do is post. They can use the forum in every other way. |
