Hey John--I was about to confidently tell you "oh, definitely webcast" but it looks like they stopped providing it. I see that they are carried on Sirius now and I guess they dropped the freebies. That's a shame. They used to even have visual casts too--freeze-framed cam shots. Looks like you're out of luck. They used to archive the shows for streaming audio later. Don't know if they still do.
I don't suppose you can pick up any US public radio stations from northern states?[This message was edited by Jon Light on 25 November 2006 at 02:34 PM.] |

Thank you, Jon.
I'm going to try to tune in a northern n.y. station like the one in Canton. I'll have to go sit in the car, as I haven't had a radio in my house in years.

p.s. the T.V. is the next to go ! haha |

I'm getting the streaming webcast at http://prairiehome.publicradio.org/
The Windows Media Stream (64 kbps) is working fine.
BTW, it sounds great, steel all over the place. [This message was edited by Dave Mudgett on 25 November 2006 at 03:08 PM.] |

Yep. There was no webcast info posted until just a few minutes before showtime. Too bad John's sitting in his car instead of reading this. |

Jim,
Thanks for the link. I missed the local Public Radio broiadcast, but I listened to the whole thing on the web at 6PM Pacific. Man Buddy sounded great. Especially on the old Homer and Jethro tune Oh Babe. His instrumental of Shenandoah was really exceptional. But what do you expect, he's the Big E.!

It's funny---not only do I get the thrill of listening to Mr. Emmons, live, on the air, in a different setting---but I also get a thrill hearing him captivate an audience of people, many of whom know nothing of steel guitar. They were clearly enthusiastic. And I imagine that many of them are saying "I don't know what it is but wow, that is stunningly beautiful."
I feel a pride like a doting mother or something. |

Gotta echo Stu's sentiments, except here it's about -30 so the Big E's sound came through even crisper |

I wanted to listen to the show in retrospective (podcast) form on Public Radio, but it isn't available. I checked as to why this is so and found this note:
Quote: |
Why don't you have a podcast?
Many listeners have been asking us to make A Prairie Home Companion available as a podcast. We do have the monologue, The News from Lake Wobegon available as a podcast through a partnership with Audible.com.
The reason we cannot offer the whole show up for podcast is that we feature many different bands and musicians on our show. As such, their intellectual property is being broadcast to the listening audiences. We would have to get each artists' permission, not only to distribute their music in this way, but they would also have to be comfortable with the fact that it could be shared easily. |
Oh, well. A shame, really. |

Shenandoah -- my goodness, how beautiful. I could only listen distantly from my boom box in the kitchen, but I'm sure he held the live audience raptly in quiet attention.
I think this is at least the 3rd time BE has played the show. Maybe Buddy will become a semi-regular there like Cindy is and Chet was. Sometime I'd love to hear Buddy comment about what the rehersals and backstage scene is like there, with all the little bits and stage pieces that the musicians are involved in.

I heard SHENANDOAH played before but when Mr. Emmons played SHENANDOAH I realized that I never really heard it played before. The audience was very appreciative of the great master they were hearing..you could tell it in their loud and long applause. Buddy, very wisely choose a song that needed no accompaniment...in fact, my sheet music of the song says Tempo, slow..Rhythm, none..play freely. A great song to show the qualities of a great instrument played by a great master..he's the best. |
