Al Brisco is one of my favorite players. Besides being a great player, Al is a great person. At the Convention in St. Louis last year Al brought some guys down from Canada to pick Ralph Mooney stuff. It was one of the best perforances I've heard in years and years. But--I happen to love what Ralph Mooney plays. Ralph Mooney was probably the driving force that kept me interested in steel guitar. Al Brisco knew I loved Ralph Mooney stuff, so Al sent me his new instruction course devoted to Ralph Mooney. Joey Ace helped Al with this project. It is a DVD with tablature, with Al explaining everything where anyone could pick it up. Al shows how to play all that great Mooney stuff on the straight E9th Nashville setup. Some of those old intros and breaks Ralph played on the early Buck Owens and Winn Stewart songs still raise the hair on the back of my neck. To me it is what I love to hear out of a steel guitar. It is a wreckless style, and you can feel the guy playing it is not taking any hostiages. If we could only hear stuff like this out of Nashville today! People who hear me play, hear some of the inspiration I got from those old Ralph Mooney sessions. I hear it in many players style. I hear it in Dicky Overby's playing, and he is one of my favorite players also. If you like Ralph Moony contact Al Brisco about getting this instruction course. www.steelguitarcanada.com This instruction course makes me want to get an old cable Fender 400 and start pickin. In some ways what Ralph played sounds better to me on one of these old Fenders than it does on some of the high power modern guitars. Hate to say that, considering I usually play my old 1980 ZUM.

Buck Owens and Winn Stewart wanted a REAL steel player, not just a warm body sitting behind a steel. I see these modern country videos coming out of Nashville and it is all about the singer. The producers make all the bands sound the same, just a different singer. A guy like Ralph Mooney would scare Nashville producers of today to death. They wouldn't let poor Ralph plug his steel in. They would be more likely to use a guy who sounded like Jimmy Hendrix, than use a guy who sounded like Ralph Mooney. Makes me wonder if we are hearing real country music today, or just distortion. I can hear the Nashville producers now---The Mooney Sound is way to loud and way, way, way, way too much trebble. I don't care what the producers like, I just know what I like.

Now Keith,

You wouldn't be alittle biased when it comes to that Goosd Old Country Music and the real sounds!

I couldn't agree more that's why I got away from all that junk years ago.

Ralph Mooney what an American Orignal! What else could one say. Buck Owens was a very smart business man and he knew what would sell. I'd say Wynn had the right I-Deara too, wouldn't ya'll!

Thanks for the good words Keith!
This was a great experience for me too.

Al and I have agreed in principle that we'd like to do a new DVD each year. Feel free to email me any ideas.

The current DVD is available from Al at the address Keith gave. Because Al doesn't use Paypal, I set up a site were you can order with Paypal. http://joeyace.com/moon.htm

I'd like to thank Tim Tweedale for doing such a great job on the Tab, and of course Ralph Mooney, for giving his OK to the project.

I hope that we'll be hearing a lot more of the Bakersfield Style.

Joey

Terry, anyone who doesn't like Ralph Mooney's playing might be a COMMUNIST bed wetter. Ralph might not be a sophisticated tree huggers cup of tea when it comes to music.

Again, I agree with Keith. Moon was and is a VERY distinctive player. One of the west coast boys who I try to emulate. I don't know if that would be allowed today by the narrow powers that be.

Ordered mine through Joey using PayPal. Painless. I'm interested in this coarse because of Ralph's Reel on Utube. I learned most of it by ear, but I coun't figure out a lot of the bridge parts.
I can't wait. Thanks Al and Joey.

Shot my order in just now. Can't wait to get the disk. I recently enjoyed Ferlin Husky in his appearance at Smokey Mitchell's C'City Opry in Colorado City recently. What a show. Mooney certainly reigns supreme in this country.

Keith
I grew up playing the Wichita VFW's and American Legions with my Uncle Tom and My Dad's band (Tom and Bill Biggers, Bob Steele, Frank Riddling, George Abbot, and Larry Folts)
We played true honest country and loved it. They packed the house then and if they were still living they would pack the house today.
I agree but remember there are a few good ones left like George Strait and Alan Jackson. They just refuse to change. God Bless them.
Leave it to a fellow Wichita boy to understand the true meaning of counrty. Please the country music fans. All the fans not just the teenie boppers!
