Speed picking in Country Hits

Are there any Country Hit Tunes where a lot of "Steel Guitar Speed picking" is used either in the vocal backup or in the turnaround...I mean 30 to 50 note licks?

"Big Mamou" by Frenchy [last name forgotten, help me out, scholars].

The earliest example of super fast, super clean speed picking I'd ever heard, and this was a big radio hit in the mid 70's I think.

I was mesmerized, perplexed, and frustrated all at once. How could he do that with palm blocking? Took years to learn it was a different technique. Still working and getting it down, for me it's hardest when changing strings up or down, pick blocking as you climb across or down is tricky for me.

Who played steel on Frenchy's Big Mamou??,,I know I've heard Robbie Sprinfield do it on his live shows,,,but not sure if he did it on the recording,,,also Steve Palousek did a great job when he was with Frenchy,

I was told that Robbie did indeed play on the tracks. I have one of the greatest hits CD's and it is really good.One of my favorites with really great Steel playing...

Robbie Springfield did indeed do the "Big Mamou" cut with Fiddlin' Frenchie Burke. The name of the LP/CD is "Fiddlin' Frenchie Burke & the Outlaws". I have the old LP record and a CD of it and there are some killer tracks on that. Robbie was only 15 years old when he did that steel work. Some of the twin stuff with guitarist Randy Corner is great too. I contacted him via email one time about this recording and I believe he even used an MSA guitar on it!..........JH in Va.

Robbie did play on the recording with Frenchy. It was a great tune and very impressive at the time it came out... and still is for that matter.

A couple other major, hit recordings with high-speed-steel that come to mind for me are "Charlotte Fever" by Kenny Price with Lloyd Green, circa 1970 and "If Love Was A Bottle Of Wine" by Tommy Overstreet with Weldon Myrick circa late 1976 or early 1977. The latter tune was the first example of pick-blocking at super, high speed I remember hearing. I know Smiley remembers that one well !!!
