I wonder if pretty soon it will be, "Jerry Douglas with Allison Krause and Union Station" ....
As far as I'm concerned, it already is.

I don't even like having the company name on the front apron.
Takes away from the good looks of the steel, IMO.
My only exclusions are Fender, Sho-Bud, and Emmons.

Well, as part of the contract stipulation, it already is "Alison Krauss & Union Station Featuring Jerry Douglas," so I guess that's not too far off.

I kinda like the name on front thing-if you are legitimately "hero" status. Not an issue that I will ever have to ponder for myself...

Oh-as far as the Janis Joplin alone thing: toward the end of her short life-were there even any members from Big Brother in her band that if memory serves was called "Full Tilt Boogie?"

Check this bad boy out!
This was done by my friend in Houston Tim Edson
he is a pro at this because he matched the paint on the LDG logo to the sticker, it can be taken of by using a hair dryer.

Best one I ever saw was "BOBBY MONGOMERY AMATEUR GYNECOLOGIST" Anybody remember him? He played around the Minneapolis area in the 60's and 70's.

Duane that might work better than a phone number. Or NOT!

Mark -- Janis' last backing band was Full Tilt Boogie...no members of Big Brother present. Piano player Richard Bell went on to play with The Band in the 90's. The album released in 1970 was called "Pearl" and it is listed in Rolling Stones list of 500 greatest albums as follows:

122. Pearl, Janis Joplin

If Buddy puts his name on his current steel, would that prompt a call from a lawyer ?
[This message was edited by Tony Prior on 07 November 2006 at 02:14 AM.]

Jerry H.
I remember Blackie's leather nameplate. It was black with red roses tooled on either side of his name. I thought it cool.

I'm not a real big fan of inscriptions, although I do think that the case should be prominently marked (painted) with a name, band-name, or big symbol, like a star. Cases look a lot more alike than most guitars, and it's nice to have something really significant and individual painted on the case.

"That's right, officer. My case had a big, foot-high, gold star painted on it!"

That gives the cops and pawn-shops something obvious to look for.

With all this, I find myself thinking more and more about the small-print word model under the LDG logo and wondering where my razor blades are.

I personally don't care for names on the front apron of the guitar. I think it ruins the cosmetic look of the instrument. I do know several people who have done this to they're guitars. It just not for me, but I don't care for tatoos either. Image

I don't even like the tradition of having the manufacturer's name/logo on the front of the guitar. It sort of trashes the look of a nice piece of wood, IMHO.

My Dekley is right on the cusp of the mobile/immobile as it is. I think the added weight of the vinyl letters would put it over the top.

I like what b0b said.

I have some custom Teles and such, and I refuse to put ANY decal on the headstock - thy're not Fenders so that wouldn't be right, and they look funny with anything else on them. Good-looking wood is better left alone.

I have a white S-10 non pedal steel with names all over it. I use it for steel players autographs. Most are hall of famers. I also have pictures of each one signing it. At present there are over 50 names on it. Unfortunatly, many of my heroes were gone before I started the project.
