Shenandoah Valley Hawaiian Steel Guitar Fest

Post by Rick Aiello »

My buddy just opened up a music store in downtown Berryville ... 2 doors down from my wife's office.

I brought him a Dustpan to put in his show window ... and we started "jawin' about stuff".

A common friend of ours ... puts on a huge pig roast/woodstock type event ... each year ...

I took Mike Neer over to the pig roast this year ... and he thrilled some of the "campers" with some serious Triconicity.

Anyway ... I decided to try and do something different for this area ... and the 1st Annual Shenandoah Valley Hawaiian Steel Guitar Fest ... was concieved ... Image

So with some luck and some sponsers ... I've already rounded up Berryville Medical Associates .. Image ... this might happen.

My dream "Head-liners" ...

The Moonlighters & The Hula Monsters

Sometime in April '06 ...

That sounds like fun! Maybe we could have a "Miss Shenandoah Valley" contest!

Jeff, you kids and your MTV minds. I suppose you want extreme ATV racing all over that countryside too.

Rick, the pictures of this place look absolutely beautiful. I'm thinking maybe I can use my "Joliet money" to come over in April.

Jeff S. ... that would be ... The Miss Hawaiian Steel contest ....

And I'm way ahead of you ... the pageant is on ... and "da fix" is in ...

Image

Jeff AH ... please don't ... HSGA first !!

I'll try and get a "wealthy associate" to fly you and your band over ... Image

For those who don't camp ... there are some seriously historic Bed/Breakfast houses very close ...

And standard hotels/motels in Winchester (10 miles west) ...

Could be the start of somethin' big ... worth a shot anyway ... Image

2638 miles from San Diego. 38 hours to drive, one way. That’s five bags of Ruffles and 5 six packs of diet Coke to get there, plus 200 gallons of gas round trip @ $2.58/gal.

OK, Sounds good to me. Jack

Will there be a luau?

For those who don't camp
Well, I can get a good deal on a camper that's converted from a NYC garbage truck. I think I'll look into it.

Do the campgrounds have a bar and restaurant?
[This message was edited by HowardR on 21 November 2005 at 10:01 AM.]

You can take the New Yorker out of New York but you can't take...

Rick, just for Howard, please make sure you can provide 24 hour cab service, decent Italian and Kosher deli's(both meat and dairy), Sunday New York Times delivery and a variety of Art and Science museums for the off hours during the weekend.

"1st Annual...": Rick, I like the way you think! Will be there within 1 Diet Coke, half a bag of Ruffles and 4 gallons of gas.

Hmmm, we'll need a logo-- right now I'm likin' two Dustpans crossed over a watermelon with a big smilin' slice cut out...or King Kong wading the Shenandoah in a humungous flowered lei, holding the Boobpan aloft...maybe a banner, T-shirts, some temporary tattoos... Image

Just put myself on "growler detail". Image

Oh yeah. Let's bring it on, y'all. --Steve

Well, it's a great idea. Kudos to Rick.

What part of April would this happen? What is the weather like in your neck of the woods that time of year?

Rick, if there's anything I can do to help out in any way, shoot me an email.

Rick - I've been bike riding out around Berryville. It's a really beautiful area.

Wow - Moonlighters and possibly the Hula Monsters. Kind of like getting the Stones and Beatles together back in the day. Perfect!

Any thoughts to an accompanying workshop? Maybe some intro to Hawaiian style for us Newbies.

I'll be there for sure!

Les, that's a great idea with regard to a workshop.

Rick, I didn't realize the Berryville is only a 4-5 hour trip from NYC. That's a 3 sixpack drive..... Image
only kidding

Heck, I'll even give Gerald a ride..... Image

Mike Neer offered to do a workshop ...

I'm sure we can come up with various Hawaiian Steel related "mini-events" ...

Pre-fest Friday .... Post-fest Sunday ...

Yep I can see lots of time for info sharing, vintage guitar playing and general frivolity.
