I just wanted to say that I met this great player with Mark Chestnut last night in South Padre Island Texas. As the bands were changing over, Slim was putting tape on set lists for Marks band as he and I were chatting backstage. He asked me about my GFI and I basically interrogated him about his Excel. Slim was a gracious guy and we took a few pictures together and he asked me what strings I used on my GFI. I told him what I was using and he was kind enough to open his travel case and hand me 4 sets of his strings and suggested I give them a try. What a cool guy. He was a really nice guy and a great player who likes to laugh and have fun. If you ever get the chance, it is well worth the effort to say hello to this fine picker as he will certainly talk steel and give you pointers with no reservations at all. For a beginner like me, it was a real treat. .....James

There are some real nice people out there. All we have to do is take the time to find them.

Hey James
I have to agree with everything you said about Slim.
I have known him for 25+ years and always enjoy hanging and spending time with him. He is a great player/person,and he always makes me laugh.
We have missed Chestnut by a day or two several times this year out on the road, maybe will cross pathes next year.
Slim did show up at the Dallas show last year, late Saturday night, and we had a short visit. cya...Ronnie

Ronnie, I was standing about 20 feet from Slim when he was playing. At one point the guitar player hit a wrong chord, not a small mistake, one that stuck out like a sore thumb. I mean it was really a stinker. He looked up with a paniced look on his face and the fiddle and drummer immediately started laughing at him. Slim very casually looked over at the guitarist and raised his hand and gave him the "crash and burn" sign as he laughed into his solo. It was amazing how well these guys played and how one mistake provided the ammunition for a ribbing during the rest of the gig.....James
