I am continuing to develop my Thumb/Fingerstyle playing for the
Standard E9th Tuning. In the subject song
I have incorporated two more knee levers
namely: RAISING the E's a half as well as
LOWERING a half, also lowering the six G# a full tone. These changes in addition to
pedals A and B offer more possibilities
for this style.

Thank you Jim and Bobbe!
A neighbour/friend of mine who attended
the Chet Atkins Convention in Nashville
this past July lent me a DVD he purchased
there. It's called Nine Pound Hammer and
features Guitar Styles of Western Kentucky.
Included are several excellent Thumbpickers
...including your buddy Bob Saxton Bobbe.
I think of and try to find ways to play
this great style on Pedal Steel .....and particularily Standard E9th. It's part of all
my practice sessions now along with other styles of course.
I am here to help others learn to Thumbpick
if they so desire. Be prepared to WORK and
there is a financial cost also... but
very reasonable.

Many thanks William.
Hi A.J.,
In answer to your question..........
No, Nine Pound Hammer is not in
my Thumbstyle E9Th Course, but all the
necessary technique is in there. Aside
from the course.......
I can do a seperate lesson on Nine Pound Hammer and send it "On Line" to you or anyone
else interested for a very reasonable
charge.

Roy, you wanting to help others play this style means more to me than you know. You are not only a great T-player, but also a incredible person, so glad to know you and hear you.

Commander Seymour,
What copedant are you using on the E9 thumb style vid on your front page?
Also, in the middle there, how can I learn how to raise my right hand like an orchestra conductor and direct my left hand? Do you have tab for that? Also, at the end there, how can I learn to part the sound waves with each hand? And once you had the sound waves parted, why didn't you just go on and walk across?
Seriously, though, can E9 thumb be done with the standard copedant?

Darryl, I learned all this from Roy, however, my "T-style" E9th tuning on my web-page is just as Roy guessed on another thread, just a standard E-9 with the bottom string dropped to a "E" note.
There is just something magic about this style, I've been fastenated with it ever since I first heard it in the fifties, Chet, then Merle, now Roy Thompson!
One can play regular "E"9th fast, or slow and beautiful, but there is nothing like Thumbstyle steel or regular guitar for my weird tastes. If you are playing for someone all by yourself with no accompliment, it is the only style that makes them pat there foot! Period.

Bobbe ,,,
When it comes to Thumbstyle you and I think
exactly alike.
For you to mention my name along side Chet
and Merle gives me "thrills in the stomach".
I read all your newsletters and go to your site frequently. Keep up the fine work.
Your friend
Roy
