Topic: Learned a valuable lesson tonight |

| I already knew this,but I was in a hurry and put my picks in my pocket.I was going to play bluegrass gospel at church on my '28 model Gibson 5 string tonight.I grabbed my picks off of my steel guitar and stuck them in my pocket.After 3 or 4 stops getting my car keys and money out before I got to church,the picks obviously were pulled out and dropped somewhere and lost.Now my 25+ year old Nationals are gone for good.There are no finger picks to be found in this music hell where I live.Lesson well learned! |

| I always keep an extra set of picks in my non-used car ashtray & a bar in my glove box! My age gives me an excuse if I forget mine, I'd consider an extra D-10,Amp,& Seat too if I had them! But I never forget where I'm playin! au |

| Andy , get on the net and find some picks for sale online .It is easy , you may find the ones you like but you may find ones you like better . One thing I think is true : do not be wieghed down cause 'I don't have my favorite picks , shoes , hat , slide , strings , shaving cream whatever ,try and play with what youve got and when something like that comes up again , no problem . |

| I have at least a dozen sets of "personally adjusted" fingerpicks scattered around in guitar cases, pockets, and other strategic locations. I try to rotate them around randomly, so that there are no favorites. I cultivated this habit after seeing a fellow picker go into deep depression after losing his one-and-onlys, and recommend it to all. |

Joan Davis music, on line, sells the reissued National Picks. I've been using a set for about 6 months and they are just like the "originals". They are the NP2 model. I have some of the Showcase 1941's, which are supposed to be a copy of the Nationals but the NP2 Nationals seem to be better.

Sorry to hear of your loss.
I agree with the above sentiment of not getting too attached. I have tons of picks and bars and usually just use whatever I have in the pouch.
I'm crazy over guitar picks, though! I use the Wegen picks which cost $15 each. I'm trying to reacquaint myself with the Dunlops for the sake of my childrens' education fund.

| Try keeping your picks in a small pill bottle. It will keep them together and keep them from getting squashed and bent. |

Do a search in the Pedal Steel Section for National or read This Link.
I found the new NP2s to be very similar to the original ones I bought cheap from a Forum Member. They are not as soft of thin as the Kysors or the "repopped old" styles.

| Andy, I had some old nationals, I think they were made of nickel, that I used for probably 17 years when one of them finally broke. It was devestating. I went out and bought some chrome nationals and it didn't take too long to get used to them. As was stated earlier in this thread, I bought a bunch of sets of them to use because I didn't want to get attached to one particular set again. I use the National NP2's now and I like them quite a bit. I carry my picks in those old plastic 35mm film canisters, that way they don't get bent or crushed. It won't take you as long as you think to get used to another pair. Hang in there and good luck. |
